so i have my GP and it is a dream to drive and has no problems. and with that being my only car i cant do any "cool" stuff to it or drive it crazy. so i am looking to get something else to fix up and have as a toy.

today i came across a 2000 Isuzu Vehicross. it has 850000 miles and is real nice on the inside. it is selling for $2500 but i think it could be less if haggled with. the reason it is cheap is because the whole driver side needs major work. like quarter panel, plastic molding the whole length of the car and then a hood and some front peaces.

i know how to do body work and can fix the metel parts. but as for the plastic they will have to be replaced. i am just wondering if parts will be expensive sense they only made like 5000 of these suvs new.

so what are all your thoughts? is it worth it or not?
would i be able to find replacement parts for this "special" SUV?

    thanks!

i like the look of it. and the recaro seats are sweet. i am not hell bent on getting it. i am also looking for a jeep or something.

my goal is to buy something for less than $1500. and over the course of many months have it like a custom restore. so it does not have to drive or look nice. i am really just wanting to try my hand at every aspect of car repair and customization. i want a truck, or SUV because i have a car. and miss my blazer i had. but it died and had to trade it.

but now that i have a car that works i will not have a problem taking the motor out and not being able to drive it for months because it will not be my DD.

any suggestions then on what i should look for and where?

do you want a car or truck platform?

for trucks S10, old K trucks, blazers, Jeeps (manuals) are fun, nissan hardbodys. you could go from a bagged slammed mini truck S10 to lifted fuel injected jeep on 44in tall mud bog tires.

cars. another grand prix/w body, hondas, toyotas, ford mustands the old fox body style, LTDS (based on same parts as mustang), a 3/4th gen F body, old g bodys(grand prix, grand national/regal t types, monte carlos, datsun, miatas,Rx7s, first gen supras.

go pick up some magazines and see what you like and prices for parts and what not.

For me i have my DD GTP, a 72 pontiac wagon cruiser, and im looking for a small rwd car to autoX with.

some of the ones you said were good. but i guess i should have said what i meant by custom. i want to make the vehicle i buy to be like stock. buy make it like the stock it should have been. for example, cars with hard plastic insides. i want to either learn to wrap them with leather or do some kind of special pain to them.

but i do like the jeeps and older s10's. i hate exploders... i mean explorers. and as for cars i do like the honda, toyota and nissan. but like you i want a RWD car or SUV/truck.

i know basic prices on stuff but around where i live lots are selling old suvs and trucks for still around 10K. and i dont know why.

I'm i reading that right? 850,000 thousand miles? I don't even know what a vehicross is, but I do know that if you're patient and know what you're looking for, 2500 bucks can by alot of car/truck.

^ what they said, i had to read twice to make sure. I personally may soon be going the jeep route, find yourself an I6 older jeep and it'll run awesome. you can find them in the upper 100k's for around 1-2,000

id pass on the liberty, i just saw one on its roof on Sunday and they pulled one person out dead, it looks unstable, too high of a center of gravity.

i agree, you can get a Cherokee limited for dirt cheap and be wheelin in style, a/c, power windows leather seats lol i had one with the v8, that thing moved good. also had one with the straight 6 4.0 that thing sucked a dick bad.
