Re: future project, thoughts wanted.
Your obviously not scared to move some mounts or do something custom since you mentioned the l67 swap. I say give us a budget and a hp figure to shoot for so we aren't all just throwing every gm engine ever made at you lol
I've thought about doing an old truck once or twice and I think I decided I would buy a wrecked 96+ suburban and stick the vortec 350 in it and take all the wiring and computer along with it... Leave it auto and either before I put it in or maybe later add a cam and some ported heads and headers and an intake mani and a few other goodies. and probably take the leather captains chairs and console out of the burb too maybe even the dash somehow too...

What about a 383 Stroker?

Re: future project, thoughts wanted.
i see what everyone is getting at here...the possibilities are nearly endless to be honest.
the problem i have with the stock engine: i have zero way of actually tuning it besides by ear and feel so i have a feeling i will blow it up after a short amount of time with boost.
the problem i have with the LSx/T56: i know NOTHING about this platform, motor, trans, CPU, anything. so this would be the most difficult for me and obviously the most expensive out of the options because the motors and transmissions aren't cheap to begin with.
i did bring up a quick little idea of the EJ257/6-speed out of an STI, but that motor/trans combo will most likely cost me $5k at least. im open to suggestions, but im still feeling the L67 would be the most entertaining for me since im not realistically looking for a radical horsepower vehicle.
all opinions are welcome! thanks, guys!

Re: future project, thoughts wanted.
I like the L67 idea. I think it might be the most fun because you'll be able to beat the piss out of it and not care. You already have the know-how to fix it yourself and the parts are cheap, so it won't rape your wallet.
That's assuming you can get the motor and trans mounted without too much wallet raping custom fab work.

Re: future project, thoughts wanted.
I like the pickup truck idea, airbag it, full of chrome and some nice wheels with white walls. Drop in an LSx, none of this v6 crap. put a nasty nasty nasty cam in it and run straight pipes...thats how I would do it. Doesn't have to make 1000hp, do some nice trickflow heads and round out to about 400-450whp.

Re: future project, thoughts wanted.
just because i know the platform i think an L67 would be more fun, but i could be overthinking it. obviously with any sort of V8 swap i can make more power for cheaper, but i just feel as though that is kind of everyone's idea when they want to motor swap an older truck like this.
clearly different doesnt mean good idea, but in this case i think it may.

Re: future project, thoughts wanted.
Put a large solar panel in the bed, below it have hamster cages with wheels attached to generators all charging about 8 batteries, run an electric motor and drive your pants off.

Re: future project, thoughts wanted.
Turbo straight six. F*cktons of torque from longer stroke 6, some nicer high end from the turbo. It'll lay rubber and sound nice, ought to be simple to work on. Do a headswap to a newer version with a PCM you can tune if the current bottom end is still good.

Re: future project, thoughts wanted.
LS9...
no seriously i think my vote would go for the L67 especially if its going to be turbo/ CSC.
but overall with a 3800 youll be more comfortable with running it hard or evan just running it. if youre sitting in the drivers seat scared thinking somethings gonna blow out of your LSX or EJ257, then it wont be fun. and a ride like this should be fun.. my $.02

Re: future project, thoughts wanted.
well...now that people having been bringing it up...
i might just throw a turbo on the stock motor and trans to keep me happy while i have fun time with the body work and suspension. that will give me time to plan out a good attack plan for the powerplant that will go in it later. hell, maybe ill like how the turbo straight six turns out and just run it as is.
i kinda want to try and get ahold of this thing now...its too bad i dont have a place to store it or id ask what the guy would want for it.

Re: future project, thoughts wanted.
L67 with a T56 would be pretty different. There's a couple of guys who have/are doing the six speed in their f-bodies.
-
Re: future project, thoughts wanted.
sounds like its going to be a good project..as long as you dont go with a 3800..i like the ls9 idea...but i like the stock motor with a turbo better,,,maybe even a TT stright 6?

Re: future project, thoughts wanted.
I say get it how you want it to look before you worry about power. What's the point of going fast if your all rusty.
Then I say l67 would be cool, work with what your firmiliar, I'm sure your money isn't easily earned, don't waste it on a chance of blowing the motor up
