buut i just wonder at the same token since hummer, saturn and whatever else was cut, could they have just really beefed up pontiac along with buick, chevy, caddy and made more of a profit? coulda kept buick for large old people cars and really specialized pontiac back down to performance like it once was. idk. i love pontiac so i would have tried to really focus each brand down because it seems to me they wanna mesh them all. but i do like the new look buick is taking on, nonetheless
hummer was just 1500's with a honda element body on top....
i only liked the original hummers like hum vees. military style. haha
buut i did see this article, apparently pontiac was going to be a focused niche brand?
GM Plans to Eliminate Saab, Saturn, Hummer and Shrink Pontiac - U.S. News Rankings and Reviews
GM is still too big IMO.
No other car company has three brands going at once with such overlap.
Honda? acura. Toyota? Lexus. Nissan? Infiniti.
And the only reason those companies did that was so that americans would "forget" their association with the cheaper cars the company sold.
ohh. i thought lexus was the luxury version of toyota..and dont forget scion (performance?)
so yeah. idk. i always wondered as a kid why GM had so many brands. and i always thought gmc or chevy one should disappear because they are the same thing.
saturn was always a joke to me. hummer was cool when i was real little. and saab i thought was hilarious, my grandparents used to repossess cars and they told me stories of jacking the old saabs how u had to start it in the passenger side and the gears were weird and stuff, idk lol i just developed a bias against them then i guess haha.
but i always thought pontiac was unique from the rest, the styling was always different than the others, at least on the exterior. so thats why i was really disappointed when pontiac was discontinued, not to mention i liked performance, or "performance".
i was always a fan of Pontiac's styling, always like the dual gills, from the late 60's gto,70 firebird witch i owned, to last run cars to date.
and i like the open grill of gmc trucks, i was never a fan of the chevy grill, that stupid bar across the grill stinks on ice. and that first run hood was ugly as sin.
Chevy and gmc trucks have been very different since at least the early 90's, the body line fenders and hood, and doors dont come close to a match, nothing is interchangeable anymore body wise, since Chevys new body style
Irony is that the engine in all our cars is a Buick.
Buick could be cool, make a Grand National or T-Type edition of something.
I would love for the TA to come back , if its a Chevy that's fine, they always shared the same platform anyways.. And back in the day so did the Monte Carlo, GP, and regal .. And remember the caprice , bonniville, and century.. all the same platform... If we wait long enough they will bring at least the model if not the brand....
or... Buy a '12 Buick Regal GS, debadge it, throw on Pontiac ones, and BAM! Pontiac is back with your "2012 Grand Prix GTP"
At least thats what GM essentially did for years.
