hey on my regal the cluster display, gear indicator/ mileage etc is unlit/ burnout.... i can live with that but the DIC started to act funny today... its been dim from time to time but finally when out... it came back with banging on the dash?

Is it simply that a connection is loose and my need re sautered? or bulbs or?

    Well thanks for reading
here's a pic once the DIC came back on http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/...TQyNy5qcGc.jpg

Being a Regal, do all 10 resistors. It's relatively quick and easy. Holler if you have any questions. BTW..while you are there, is your HVAC dim at all or moody? Great time to fix that too. I'll post that fix.

Question!: just went to buy the resistors, and local radio shack doesn't sell more then two 180s per pack, we dug throughg everything they had and found 2, I was wondering is it the resistor that fails or the sauter holding them on?

Uhmmm I'm having a second thought about it being 180, but shouldn't be questioning myself if it's a 180 or 150ohm.

The resistors will look cooked and either fall off or are already laying int eh bottom of the cluster when you pull it apart. PM on the way.

I double checked and am very sorry.

150ohm resistors is what you need to replace with. Not sure what the heck I was thinking when I original wrote 180. I have corrected the writeup.

no worries, but same situation, the place only had mutipacks with 2 of each. he had a few open packs and let me grab the 180s. So i gotta order some off ebay i guess,
Only other places they reccomend might have em is over an hour drive so I'll postpone this one for a little while

i had the same problem when i bought my regal. if you have 0 experience soldering you should not try this yourself, the last owner of my car tried to fix it them self and cooked the board, so i wound up having to send my cluster out to be replaced/ rebuilt, and if you need a new one make sure that its for the same year car, they are very different from year to year, the 1 st one the guy sent me was for a different year and the speedo and gas gauge didn't work.

    Good thoughts Scott...

Hey Cody, Scott reminded me about a 99 cluster I have sitting around. Want to play swap clusters and I could fix your up, or..if you want I can pick up the resistors (although I think I have them laying around) and send them to ya.

if you sent the cluster out to a repair shop, they can and will download your mileage and put it into a new/ used unit, thats how i found out it had 212,000 miles on my car, had no idea it was that hi when i bought it, last title said 160,000.

so no stickers on my door, its all done the right way, most of the junk yard clusters are burnt up already and for piece of mind its worth a rebuild anyways.

the lights burning out are very very common the resistor just vibrate loose over time. same as the climate controls lights.

mine cost 60 bucks off ebay
