I have a few nice ones, one that even the DOD use to use
Darik's Boot and Nuke (Hard Drive Disk Wipe)
Click on Stable Releases, and Select the Darik's Boot and Nuke 1.0.7 version.
Now mind you, this will TOTALLY wipe the drive. Once this process is done, there is no going back. This program is a data destroyer and will remove ALL traces of programs and files that use to be on the drive. So in other words, NOTHING is recoverable after you run this program.
But it was used by the DOD, and I have been using it loyally for the past 3 years now. I would recommend this above any other program.

will it work even if i have a single hard drive? i forgot to mention that i have windows vista 64-bit

The OS wont matter. And it will work on a single drive. It can run off a floppy drive to wipe the HD. And should be good to go.

why not just format it?

Because it does not really remove every thing. If you reformat your drive i can download software and i can pull up your info and files that you thought you deleted in a matter of minutes.Originally Posted by TurboKent

The really good programs don't use straight 0s. They use randomly generated hex patterns so it fills the drive with absolute "noise" or "gibberish". Even better than all 0s.

There is a term some "techies" use called "Zeroing out the hard drive." Basically as stated above it removed all data so that it is unrecognizable. The program I posted does just that

i have a SATA II drive. looks like the program wont work
