Don't own one, but have been tempted. Figured I'd kill myself if I did, also the fact just don't know how the back would hold up in that position. Guess I kinda missed my window of opportunity on that.

Jason DO NOT GET A 600. Just get a R1 or 1000cc bike TRUST me. You will get sick of the 600 really quick and want a biger bike.

thats just what a new rider needs to be told. first off dont buy a yamaha. suzuki gsxr or honda cbr. honda hold their value and are awesome bikes. owned 2 600rrs first was an 03 and second was an 07. 1000cc (liter bikes) are fun but a 600 is so much easier to control and easier to stunt.

yea i really dont think i need to go over 160 on a bike... all my friends are sayin the same thing to get a 1000. 1000 is a good bit heavier. i just felt comfy on the 6... the 2010 R1 is lookin sexxxy as hell though. i had thought bout a gsxr 750.

Terrible advice for a new rider. A 600 is MORE than enough for a new rider to ride and have plenty of power for years down the road. It just like saying "Buy a Corvette for your first car."

Join a motorcycle forum and learn from others. Search around for MSF course in your area. They are a great way to learn and become comfortable on a bike. You should get an insurance discount and in many states, if you pass the course, you do not have to take a riding test to get your license.

....you cannot be serious with wanting a '10 bike as your first. you do realize that your first bike youre gonna **** up, right? hell, ive been riding for almost a decade and i still screw up my bikes.

buy something cheap first, learn it, love it, play with it....then buy something you can appreciate and take care of.

i am a guy that would normally say liter bike or bust, but in your situation i wouldnt recommend it.

No offense, but that Is horrible advice. I work at a motorcycle dealership and the bikes that come in on flatbeds and get totaled out 3 days after they're purchased are almost always liter bikes that someone bought as a first bike.

There is absolutely no advantage for a new rider to get a 1000 over a 600. 99.9% of us wont ride a 600 to 75% of what it's capable of doing, let alone a 1000.

I started out a 500 twin with 40HP and then moved on to my R6 with 120HP and I don't regret learning how to ride a streetbike on a smaller bike for even a second. A new rider and a liter bike is a deadly mix.

OP: Find a bike that fits you. Sit on R6's, CBR 600RR's, GSXR's and ZX-6R's. I love my 06 R6 but it's a little too tall for me and It was really uncomfortable to ride until I got used to it. I think the new 600RR's are the most comfortable 600's out there right now (If we're talking strictly 600's, 650 twins are great too though).

x2. if you like the yamaha get the r1. take it from me you would wish you invest in it. bikes today are not like yesterdays dinosaurs. they are fully computerized and would only respond to what you wrist command it to do. respect it and you would be in full control. you would not even feel the additional 60lbs getting on the bike and riding. utmost, you would get more respect on a r1.

8k is a lot of money in comparison of a bike that you can snag off craigslist for $1000 to learn to ride on. not saying you need to listen to me, but im just suggesting you look at it from a different perspective. youre gonna destroy a new bike.

lol, okay. most dudes on liter bikes that i see are squid central. no one knows how to truely ride their bikes anymore. its a damn status symbol, just like owning an escalade.

besides, a good rider would demolish anyone on a liter bike with a 600 all day long unless you were going fast in a straight line (read: boring).

I agree, a majority of the liter bike riders are squids. There is a reason you can always find a new, low mileage liter bike for sale. Its because squids buy them, ride once, sh*t themselves because of the power, and are scared for good.

gtpinsc- Take it from a couple people who actually ride. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON TO BUY A LITER BIKE, UNLESS YOU PLAN ON DIEING.

exactly what they are saying I own a 05 cbr 600rr and it is my 3rd bike Ive ben on dirt bikes since I was old enuf to ride a pedal bike. My first actual street bike was a yamaha 250 enduro then I moved on to my dads 883 sportster and then I got my cbr. If u have never rode a bike before a word of advice don't go WOT unless ur a idiot. A 600 will keep up with a litter bike anyday in the twisties. Think about how fast u think that 600 is then multiply it by 5. Ive rode my friends old yamaha 600 genesis and my bike will eat it alive without question. Ive known plenty of ppl that thought they could ride and have ridden for years got a litter bike and totaled it not long after they got it. Way more power then anyone on the street needs. (edit) my 600 is hella fun check out my profile for pics of it

Exactly. I have been riding dirt bikes since I was 5, 15 years. I have no ambition to get on a liter bike. I would be more than happy with a 600. There is no reason you need that much power.

obviously he is not just looking to buy a bike to ride. he's looking for a status symbol! probably, he's going to join a local kickstand motorcycle crew! someone mention to much power, really can we ever have to much power! todays 600's are equivalent to yesterday's 1000 when it comes to power. a 600 would go up just as fast as a 1000. its all in the clutch and throttle. even if you chose a 600 respect it, cause it will hurt you . final quote, if you really ride, you going to fall, even if its at a red light!!!take a first time riders course if available........ps. i started of with a r6 my bike today is a ninja zx12r.

ive ridden several, but older bikes. my friend had a CBR F4 600 that i could ride or borrow whenever i wanted.. its not like im jumpin on a bike with 0 experience... not to mention dirt bikes and other **** i have ridden over the years. im almost 31 yrs old and have kids, im not gonna be ridin like a maniac. it will stay stock other than exhaust. i kno these newer bikes are kickin out some serious power... status symbol, not so much. its to ride back and forth to work which i drive 500 miles a week to and from. and ive always been drawn to a crotch rocket.
