and this being america...the assailant will sue the guy who shot him.

I believe in firearms and I agree this was the proper time to present and use the weapon, but again this America.

We really need to instate a law that stops that from happening.

Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war.

I think i live in one of the few states that has still has awesome self defense laws. Ex. im sitting at home watching tv with the family, guy kicks in my door... as soon as that door opens the law gives me right to shoot to kill. case closed. as in the the case in the link posted... someone approaches u outside your home with a weapon or in a group... the law gives me the right to shoot to kill. case closed. theres was a case a few years back of a teenage kid sneaking into his girlriends bedroom window... dad thought it was a burglar, shot and killed him... no charges filed.

Florida, we still have self defense laws.

Come on my property without permission... you figure out the rest.

property is a different story here.... cant shoot someone for trespassing, but if they come on ur property with a weapon or group of ppl for the purpose of breaking the law and u feel ur life is in danger.... empty the clip.

Here in the People's Republic of Massachusetts, you would be in more trouble for defending yourself than the loser who broke in to your house. Too many ultra liberal hippies in this state that think you can talk everything out. They still believe a group hug with Bin Laden would put an end to his desire to kill us all.

Yes The Peoples Democratic Republic of Taxachusetts is surely a mess.

John Lott (More Guns, Less Crime) answered all the questions a long time ago, but cherished beliefs vs. doing your duty protecting honest citizens is something many "public servants" don't get or want to get.

I remember a few years back, a trucker was harassing a nurse on the road at night. She put her gun where he could see it, he reported her and she got a year (mandatory) in the slammer. Justice.
