We are wanting to do more with regards to recognition to those that are giving of themselves to members of this community. In that en devour we are starting up a quarterly community hero project.

Right now we are looking at giving the winner a certificate of recognition and a custom forum title (Quarterly Community Hero Winner) or something along that line. I believe in recognizing people for their efforts in helping one another, giving of themselves, sacrificing of their time and resources to be more than just a casual observer and/or just a taker instead of a giver also.

So while we may not be in a place to do much at this point, we can at least take a step in a direction that will let people know that not only have we seen and appreciate their efforts but that they have received the recognition of their peers.

So what does it take to be a community hero?

A community hero will be someone that gives freely, willingly, repeatedly of themselves to members of the community. Whether that be knowledge, financial, time, etc. It needs to be a member of the community giving to another member of the community. It can be car related. For instance someone comes and helps you with an install you were shaky about doing or to help you make a repair, volunteered to come and bring tools that you didnt have to do a job right. It can be someone that came over an mowed your lawn in the heat of summer because you were physically unable or were not around to do so (as in vacation) or helped you with a house repair or some other similar task.

It really can be just about anything as long as the one giving does so without any financial or any other incentive to do so. They did so because they too share the spirit of volunteering and vision of this community helping one another, going well above and beyond in the pursuit of furthering the community and its enthusiasm. I would prefer that there be a repeating history of such action, but I do understand that there are times that other priorities must be dealt with. I certainly do not expect someone to be working full time and then go out and give another 40 hours in helping the community unless that is just you and you like doing that. And if you are, get in touch with me.

But it would be nice to see the potential winners to be out once or twice a month doing what they can to help the community out. If you know someone like this, the I want you to list them here in this thread.

Give their name, screen name and what they have done that you observed or were the benefactor of that makes them deserving of recognition. What we will move towards is having a vote in the very near term to determine who our first Quarterly Community Hero recipient will be.

If you think this is a junk idea then post that up as well. If the sentiment is this is a waste of time then I will cease pursuit of it as there is no point in doing it without the support of the community or if the people out there giving of themselves cannot at least have the recognition of the community.

So start posting up who you would like to nominate and why. Keep the posts on topic and related to what has been mentioned above. Please, I ask of each of you to not take this off topic. Thank you.

Every single member of SEVA and GRVA who has saved my behind. Can I nominate all of them?

Well preferably it would be a specific member of this community. If each of them helped you out and they are a member of this community, the I would say go for it.

I think that is a great idea. I know I have learned a lot from the people here and at some of the other sites. And I know I try to give what I can, it's not much but I do try.

Great idea, and thats a cool section, and could serve a really good purpose now, and in years to come for others, both old members, and new members.

I chimed in for those who have already had kudos posted for them about my experience with how they have influenced my life one way or another.

I don't mean to kiss @$$ or show favoritism, but I know of a few guys whose screen names have been all over the boards, answering countless questions and helping many members of our community. Im sure you would prefer one nomination but they both deserve recognition as far as I'm concerned. The first individual...TrannyMan, of course! I don't know what this guy does for a living but if I didnt know any better Id say he spends it on forums preventing people from having a mechanical and mental breakdown over their transmission. This guy has crazy knowledge and from what i can tell, has personally aided in or installed many transmissions belonging to members of the GP and other automotive communities. He's def got my vote! Secondly, you Scotty! You were one of the co-creators of this forum iirc, and have had a major impact in making this forum what it is today. I know without the members there wouldnt have been a reason to create GPforums.net, but you gotta remember...without the creators we wouldnt have anywhere to go to avoid the flaming and rude sarcasm of "other" forums. You seem to lack many of the qualities that we all despise in "other" moderators of "other" forums, always a plus. And last, but certainly not least, Sabrewings. I dunno how many n00b questions of mine he's answered but I see his screenname all over this forum, answering tuning questions, n00b questions, you name it. This guy also has too much knowledge for his own good

I appreciate the extremely kind words Quicksilver. It is great to see that the efforts have an impact. The Mods and Admins are not excluded from the Community Hero Suggestions but dont vote or nominate one just because they are. Not saying you did Quicksilver, please dont take it that way I just want to be clear that since I started the thread its intention was not to see my own horn tooted so to speak.

    So we have so far:

    Trannyman95
    Sabrewings
    Myself (SyntheticShield)

Are there more out there? Come on, there has to be. This community is too fantastic for there not to be more examples of people giving of themselves and going above and beyond the call of duty. Speak up people.

    I would have to nominate

    japslpr
    hydro1110

First of all, James aka japslpr, on more than one occasion, has gone out of his way to help fellow members. I can personally attest to this. My serpentine belt snapped on the interstate. He came to my rescue, new belt installed right there on the highway, faster than a tow truck would've gotten there. Most recently, I had some severe fuel issues, necessitating the need for my car to be towed to his place, where he and another friend (after they both had already put in full days at their jobs) managed to disassemble ALL of my audio, replace the damaged part, reinstall ALL of my audio, and provided me transportation to work. All of this taking away time from his new mini-James.

Gary aka hydro1110 has also saved my royal behind on many occasions. Mostly over the phone. But always a source of needed info. And I owe him some snickers bars still.

The other person I would nominate is not on this board, but he should be, so we will have to beat him up.

EXCELLENT, this is what I like hearing. I have added them to the list. Im not comfortable being a part of the list, but it was mentioned so I will leave it there. I'll give this a bit longer to see if there are any more that will be nominated.

Thank you sooo much mlambert for sharing that, I love to hear about that kind of thing.

Wow... I hadn't paid much attention to this but I'm humbled by being nominated... Glad I've made an impact.

From what I've seen, I'd like to second (or third or whatever) Reptile, Synthetic, and Trannyman. All have been more than kind in answering a lot of questions, both on the board and in PMs.
