Hey everyone.... this is pretty random, but the past few nights I've had pretty bad dreams of my car starting a fire and becoming toast. No, not too pleasant... the car is running fine (besides a steering/suspension issue), but nonetheless, I'd like to start this thread to get a little more educated on partouts for these cars.

I have a 97 GTP - black w/ charcoal leather interior. 143k on the odometer. what are the main valuable parts on these cars that everyone is looking for and for about how much? (lets assume it is a partout, but no engine fire or anything, just a regular part out). I have done some searching for certain parts and how much they run, and I must say it is a much better deal to part out a salvaged car than sell it as a roller.

I know this is pretty generic, but any insight would be helpful - my dreams are known to come true haha

Don't think you will necessarily have any parts to sell if the engine fire demons come. I hope no more members have to deal with them.

Don't think a fire extinguisher would have helped in that case. Worse that is was a 98 Daytona and turbo, etc.

He doesn't know yet, if ever what the cause was (oil line, fuel line, breather, etc.). At least he has a good insurance company and a small deductible.

Good call, Nick. The more I looked into it - it looks like a tremendous amount of time and work that probably isn't really worth it. Right now the car runs fine *besides that damn steering/suspension issue*. I suppose I'll try to get that fixed eventually when I get some money - and hopefully nothing else goes wrong.

Anyone want to trade my GTP for their GT? haha.

I agree. I wrecked a GTP once. Minor body damage to the hood and front bumper. But the entire drivetrain needed replaced. Hole in oil pan, hole in tranny pan, bent subframe, bent radiator rail, broke steering rack, damaged exhaust, etc. It was a black on tan 2 door 97 GTP with 135k on the odo.

I bought the car in May '05 for $4100. Wrecked it in Oct '05. Insurance gave me $4800 after my $500 deductible. I bought the car back for $650, and had it sold and picked up from my house in less than a week for $950. Jeremiah Hum bought it, dropped another drivetrain in it, and used it as a DD for awhile. Not sure what happened to it after that.

Now, usually wrecking cars isn't good. But I made money on that deal. Also, pulled off some small parts before I re-sold it like my tranny cooler. So I drove it for 5 months, and made $1000.
