Well i read that removing the tb screen is bad, because it messes up maf frequencys or whatever. Well i didnt remove mine but the retarded previous owner before me did and he kept it soo when i bought the car he gave it to me. It looks to be in crappy condition, its cracked and seems brittle idk if it's usable or not, and if soo how would i get it in the tb it looks like it would be a b!tch to put it back in. Soo if i cant put it back in what should i do ?

Ha! mine looks the same now that I took it off. I don't see any changes without it.

IF it affects the car it is only at idle. There is no performance lost without it in place. Some cars have issues with it being removed at idle and others do not. My bet would be you won't notice it's gone. I recently pulled mine out since it had 250k miles on it it was getting very brittle.

To put it back in just place the sceen in and compress the ring and slide it in to hold the screen in place if you want to use it.

It restricts air flow by about 10 CFM from the numbers I have seen.

itts just the last thing keeping you motor from getting damaged by FOD. its easy to put in, that metal ring that acts as the retainer. the screen sets in there and the ring secures it by expaning in the opening of the tb in front of the screen

its very easy to take out and put back in. to take out, u have to take off the TB, lift up on the TB plate, and take the round end of a screwdriver to gently tap it out. putting it back in is easy. retainer ring has to be removed to take out and then put back in place.

I will say, that having no screen DOES affect your car. I took mine out, and the car ran super lean at +10 to +14 when it had always run 0 to +3. If you take it out, you have to tune for it. My buddy is a big tuner, and he took his out, to only put it back in later...if that tells you anything. GM put it there for a reason, if it was not needed, it wouldnt be there. It straightens the air coming into the TB and crossing the MAF. Keep it in dude

Don't know if it would be bad or not, but from what I have learned is that the car manufacturers put in a lot of engineering into a vehicle (believe it or not) and if a piece is there it is there for a reason, it may seem and look like it is useless, but it is necesary for something. I just leave things as they are and fix them

I replaced the one on my 98 GTP cuz I thought it looked a little brittle...Got a new one from GM dealer for about $17.00... alittle high I thought...and it felt almost the same as the old one...I'd definitely keep it in there though...

I replaced one with the Ford Metal Screen. The Chebby stealership wanted $30 for a new one and Ford had them with metal for $10.

Yes, I have a couple cars and I run each one differently.

When I bought my car and put my FWI on it, it didn't have one..... did they only put them in after a certain year? Because a 50 year old woman owned my car so i knows it hasn't been touched.

All of the 3800 cars came with one from the factory. If you're looking for a replacement, you can get one from a dealership, ZZP, or probably from someone on this forum. But, I will suggest that anyone that doesn't have one put one in - especially if you are using a modified PCM, or have someone custom tune one for you. The ~10CFM of flow you may gain by removing it is not going to net you any power. Without the screen the airflow across the MAF is not consistent, thus screwing up your fuel trims.

Plus, having that screen in there is a great "Just in Case" device if some part of your intake happens to come disconnected and you suck in a small, furry, woodland creature...

BTW, the screen pictured by the OP is still usable as long as it doesn't split any further.

that might explain my 12MPG recently (removed the screen a week ago.)
