i have to disagree. theres way more potential and aftermarket for the sr20 than the ka motor. also i do agree the small block is better than both. theres a dude around here with a 77 porsche and a 4speed manual with no engine he wants 800 for. drop a sbc in that and call it a day.
Re: A Good Car to be modded.
depends how much you want to spend. you could buy a 3000gt VR4 and spend some money on turbo upgrades and you wouldnt be beat anytime soon. if you want something a little smaller id go with a cobalt SS/TC or SRT-4. something a little bigger, id go with a trans am ws6 or wait till the new z28 comes out. All the cars i mentioned could be bought for under $10 except the camaro, then you have a ton of money to spend on mods.
Re: A Good Car to be modded.
theres a vr4 for sale locally for 1500 i think it needs a ecu and a couple other little things

even a dodge stealth TT for 2000 locally... spun a bearing, but once you fix that it'd be sweet
Re: A Good Car to be modded.
the stealth and vr4 both have such difficult engine bays to work in that its not even funny. i would never buy one expecting to have it easy.
Re: A Good Car to be modded.
Twin turbo comes with a price.

Re: A Good Car to be modded.
when i said twin turbo comes with a price i was talking about it taking up all the room in the engine bay.

UHH...it doesn't work like that buddy.
I'd stray from building any kind of fast car.

Thats how it is in the Supra. its called sequential turbos. twin turbos are usually the same size. the advantage is that the 2 smaller turbos spool faster and reach max boost faster than one large turbo.
Re: A Good Car to be modded.
it's not that it's always spinning, it's that it's smaller so it will spool faster. and this might not be the same as the supra, but i read about a setup somewhere where some of that boost actually goes to spool the bigger turbo and keep it spooled when rpm's drop. sounds like a piping nightmare to me

and with that setup can u put it on any car, on certain cars, or its just only been tried on supras cuz it sounds like win!!!
Re: A Good Car to be modded.
I wouldnt even try it on these cars. one turbo should be plenty, but it you really want more, go twin charge (supercharger and turbo) then you will have low end boost of a supercharger and you can put a big ass turbo on because you wont have to worry about turbo lag. Ok its not actually that simple, but thats the idea.

Based on the knowledge about cars you've shown me in this thread, I would just buy something fast and not mess with it.
With a newer (especially boosted) vehicle, you're going to need a lot of tuning. With more power, more parts are inclined to fail.
Without having a lot of know how...it's hard to have a fast car. If you're paying for all of it, get your checkbook out.
