Thread: OBX Headers - Hate them and Love them

Finnally installed headers. OBX headers to be exact.

Why I hate them.... They don't fit out of the box. I had to cut the crossover pipe and extend it by 2-3" and reweld it, had to bend the tranny dipstick tube back, cut the front flange that was blocking the water pump radiator hose snout, and dent the hell out of the floor so the collector flange wouldn't hit and rattle. That took me about 6 hours and a cold 30 rack.

Now let me tell you why I love them. Before installing them I was seeing upwards of 3 degrees of knock. Now no knock, I think once and only once I saw a reading of .2 degrees. They also sound very very vicious with the ported blower!!

Now I am working on bodywork and hopefully have her painted for my birthday, July 1st.

OBX are junk. you should have went with the SSAC knockoffs that speed daddy was selling.

I wanted to... I waited 2 weeks for them to appear on ebay... when I finnally gave up and hit the buy it now for the obx ones.. the very next day speed daddys were on ebay... go figure!

i'm going through installing this junk right now... got any pics of how you modified them? i already cut the crossover, but with my shortened dog bones that rear header is already touching the firewall. did you use cradle spacers? anyone know if i can use cradle spacers with the shorter dog bones? i have a pretty big drop on the car... did anyone cut the rear egr off too? i was thinking about it since its blocked off anyway. these are pissing me off something bad... also did you use a air hammer to beat the firewall in or a good ole hammer?

I Started with an airhammer but ended up using a 32oz ball peen hammer. As for cradle spacers I have no experience to comment on that. As for the cutting and rewelding, You have to have both front and rear installed then cut the crossover somewhat in the middle, I marked it so it would be directly under and behind the throttle body so the weld would be hidden. then with the two pieces start working them and spot welding once you get it the way you like it. Hope that helps...

yeah, thats where i got it cut now just under where the tb would go. i'm stuck on the hammering the firewall in now so i can set the Y up on the rear header so i can actually start fitting that crossover. i had some 1/4 aluminum plate laying around so i fabbed up and installed craddle spacers all around this morning while my daughter napped. gonna go to harbor freight and buy a cheap $15 air hammer and steal some stainless from my dads shop this week to fill in the gap on the crossover... i really wish i had spent less money and got the speed daddys, i got these too because they were sold out and i kinda liked the bigger primaries and downpipe design better. shoulda done more research... i'll write a thread up with pics and such as a warning/ how to, to anyone else who accidently purchases these... lol

also i think i'm gonna tig weld all the joints solid if i can get them in and out like that, cause if i get them installed and my bandclamps leak i'll probably go back to origional manifolds i'll be so mad lol. thanks for getting back to me!
