my GP has 175000 on it and was wondering if 15w40 would be bad to use in it. its wat we use at work for the semis. its free so if its not bad for the motor i might as well use it. its rotella t. has more cleaning detergents and such. jus thicker than the specified factory use oil.

what are you using now? why do you want to change? 15-40 is too thick for the 3.8 in my opinion

15W seems a little to think. I used 10-30 in the summer and 5-30 in the winter

well its not that i want to change its that its free from work and my car has 175000 on it. i no its not what the GM ordered but i wasnt sure if itd be horrible for it as the bearing and such are worn a lil more than a low mileage 3.8. i usually put 10w30 in it. moneys tight right now and its free. we do our trucks about every 30,000. i think itll be fine with it in it.

Should be ok in the summer, but not when its cold out. keep in mind that oil pressure will be higher, but factory oil galley holes were not designed for that thick of oil, so stay outta the high rpm range,as it may starve for oil on the top end.

This. Or even that shell oil that's always on sale for like 10 bucks a gallon with a free filter.

Just stocked up at Napa as they have conv oil on sale for $1.99 and Gold filters are 40% off-air, fuel, oil. A really good deal IMO.
