I know i know this is a grand prix forums but I figured this would still be the best place to ask...

My girlfriends 97 escort's oil looks like a milkshake and im 99% sure its a head gasket issue. The car isn't worth very much and has high miles. Shes in the market for a new car but still needs to run this one for awhile. Instead of spending the time and/or money to properly repair the gasket i'm looking for a cheap and quick solution to get a little more life outta it. I'm reading about these additives that supposidly can fix a blown gasket or warped head but I'm leary about it. Anyone have suggestions on such a "band-aid" product?

Some of those products will fix small cracks or leaks but they do it by gumming everything up. So they can essentially cause more problems. I'd stay away from them.

There is no possible way to band aid a blown headgasket. I have done a headgasket on a 98 escort 2.0 and it was fairly easy. The intake is your biggest part of the work. I think it cost me 300 bucks for a new gasket kit, head bolts and a resurface of the head. I also put in a timing belt since I had it apart.

It may work on the low pressure leak, if you have a leak between the piston and coolant journal, than it will never seal. The compression from the piston is already pushing the fluid and anything else away from the leak. I have done enough head gasket jobs to know that the magical sealants in a bottle will never work.

The SteelSeal looks promising. I wouldn't expect any sort of additive to be a permanent fix; I'm just looking to extend the life a few more weeks/months until prepared to buy a newer car. Thanks

If I try any of them I think it'll be the steelseal. I'm just concerned that it'd block up the smaller passages in the radiator and heater core.
