so over christmas break my parents and i got into this huge fight for soem reason and now i'm not on speaking terms with my father. the thing that really gets to me is he keeps holding my car over my head. it's still in his name even though i paid for it and pay my own insurance. the only reason i haven't told him to put it in my name is that we get cheaper insurance rates if it's in a package like it is now. so i started looking around to see if i could get better rates and i was just curious to see what other people are paying. I'm 18 years old, single, full time student with hopefully a part time job coming soon, put in some apps today , with one speeding ticket on my record. any input?

call around and get some rates its going to be a bit pricey but sometimes its worth it to get out from under the parents thumb

I am not going through them.. It was just the highest quote it got.

$2,600 for state min. liability on a 02 GT.. 18 years old with 2 1-10mph overs and a 20-25 mph over.

I got another quote for $92 a month for the same coverage.. I am selling the gp and buying a 4x4..

i did some online stuff last night, the lowest i got was $42 a month and that seemed a little unrealistic. or at least like it would cover basically nothing. another one was $92ish a month. it's hard to do that with the discounts and stuff i get for being on my parent's insurance, it's only $300 for 6 months. i think if i can get a job soon i'll do it though. i'm that pissed lol

    You're over 25.

Insurance goes down SLIGHTLY when you hit 19 and quite a bit once you're 25.

seriously, call every where u can and get quotes. i've had to do that when i was 18. dad cosigned on a loan w/me. trk payment was $180 or 185 mo. and no **** the ins. was $140?. yeah, roughly $40 LESS PER MONTH than my payment. Ins. companies suck, they suck alot. u just gotta behave a little more. i had full coverage(loan) and 1 speeding ticket..

I'm 18, single and pay $205/month with full coverage. 2 tickets, 90 in a 55 and 84 in a 50, and that was with my old poopy '95 Grand Am SE v6. Fortunately I blew that car up, but that's another story...

I'm 21 and paying about 2200 for the year with just plpd, fire and theft. One accident about a year ago. Was about $1500 in damage to our car. The other car wasn't worth much at all and I was about to say they could get another one for less than paying to get the front end fixed with used parts. :P
