Thread: 2011 Mustang GT 412hp!

I just heard about it being final on the '11 GT 'Stang having a 412hp with a new 5.0L. Its about time! I might change my mind on the 03-04 cobra. Wait a few years, save up the cash and buy a used one and put a whipple on it. By then, whipple with have some nice SC setups hopefully with plenty of good r&d. I'm in love.

its about time ford gets decent power out of a mustang without it needing to be s/c. i guess they have 2 compete against the new camaro cause even the v6 has 305hp. not bad.

FTL...it is just a bored 4.6 modular motor...still DOHC modular junk. If it was a REAL 5.0...it would be a pushrod motor...you of all people should know this...you had a Fox. It is not a bored 4.6L, it is a whole new engine. As for being a "real" 5.0, concession has to be made that pushrod engines have been put to pasture...but I did love my Fox body.

still ugly as hell. make it look nicer and ill debate liking it.

idk why tho. most go to over heads cams because of fuel econemy, durability, and some say for power (nicer high rpm powerband). but when you compare fords OHC motors to gm's pushrod motors, gm is owning them. gm gets better gas miliage, more power (better under the curve power also) not to mention fords mod motors are HUGE. you gotta take the cab off a lighning to get the motor out. ford could never make a corvette because there motors are so big.

that is comparing the mustang to the camaro/corvette's

gm has proved that pushrods and can be a simple, compact, high output power plants. its old technoligy but it works.

i will say about time ford made a decent power output n/a motor, but the car is probably gonna weigh more than 4k. all that power just for the car to go 13's.

i say pushrod for the win

I hope Ford does succeed with this Mustang. However, it is either going to be a total win or total loss for them. A gut feeling tells me its going to be just like the new Camaro SS. Too pricey for the average person. Mustangs GTs have never really been about being the fastest poney car. They have always been somewhat affordable for the average person. If you wanted a fast version of a Mustang, you got a Cobra, Cobra R, Shelby, Saleen, Roush, GT500, etc. The GT was always the middle version. I feel it's going to be priced up there with the SS Camaro and out of most people's price range. But there's no doubt this will be the fastest Mustang GT straight from Ford. But I'd say now, the V6 will be priced like the previous style GT. It will probably perform the same but will sound like ass because its a V6. I would never buy a V6 mustang or camaro, just becuase if I bought a 2dr, rwd pony car, it should have a sexy sounding exhaust. Not a shi**y sounding V6.

So you've verified this with the engineers at Ford? It is a modular motor...what are you looking at? The only thing different is it is a 4 valve/4 cam with what Ford calls, Ti-VCT...(Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing)...
