Around $3,000 I'd say
2 years ago my '97 GTP got totaled by hail. My insurance co valued it at $5500. 170k miles or so. I know these are famous for the trannys to go out so if everything else is good, maybe more than $3k ? How much is the transmission? $1200?
well i have him down to 1500... looks like i might be gettin me another GTP... would be awesome!!!!!!! if it was jus a bad shift solenoid. lol i got a 60K trans for my 02 GTP from car-parts.com for 450 shipped... still runnin strong.
...$1,500 for a busted car with high mileage?? A grand...at most.
get him down to a grand based on a new trans/install jumps to over $3000 even if you get one cheap and do the work yourself
Talk him down some more
I still have the pix sent to me from the used car stealership outside of Boston where I bought my '98 GTP coupe. The pix looked so good, inside and out, I drove over 300 miles to see it. Didn't look as nice in person but after a test drive and as good as a look over as I could, I got the car for $1250 less than they were asking. What I should have done, was walk back to my car , drive back home, and look elsewhere.Wish I'd been able to put it on a lift so as to check the underside and rockers that were BADLY rusted/rotted! Amazing how good a vehicle can look on ebay, Craig's list, etc. with "quality" pix. Buyer beware!
used tranny from car-parts.com = 400-600... Install= Free plus fluids, my best friend owns a 5 bay shop with lifts.... thats even if it needs a trans. someone could have fed him a line of sh*t to get a rebuild done. 2000+/- for a CLEAN GTP coupe... not bad IMO. ive always wanted a coupe.
