    Im in the market for a new desk top computer. I own a PS3 for a gaming system and was looking at the linux stuff for the ps3 on youtube which looks cool. So this is my thought even if i can switch between the linux operating system and the PS3 operating system i wanted to buy another PS3 and like a 20"-22"in hdmi tv and hook it up on a computer desk but will i be able to hook up a printer? Im a college student so i need to be able to type and save documents which i don't think will be a problem but is there a compatiable printer??? Also is there any way to hook up like an windows operating system to the PS3?

    The reason i ask is because the PS3 is compared to 2000.00 dollar super computers when used proprly and i wouldn't mind taking advange of this.

    Also it would be nice to have another PS3 in the house on another tv for gaming and etc when someone else watching something on the tv

    I have it installed on the PS3 and honestly the graphic drivers for yellowdog suck.. If I leave it connected to my 40" plasma its almost too hard to read anything on the screen. Other than that it works great.. The only way I have seen to run windows on the PS3 is through emulators, but honestly what do you need to run that you have to have windows for?

    Ok do you think the graphic driver will be better on like a 20in hdtv just because of the size? Also do you think it would be able to print stuff?

    Yeah due to the resolution, and possibly its just my plasma refresh rate. Other than that Im happy with the install. Just take your time when installing and dont forget any of the commands

    Instead of spending $300 on another PS3, build a computer for that much, or get a netbook. Either will be able to perform more than a PS3 on a bastardized Linux platform. Get a Dell Mini 10v for $250 out of their outlet and have something more capable, more portable, and with an included monitor for less than buying another video game system.

    I thought the Yellow Dog version for the PS3 actually takes advantage of the PS3 hardware?

    I have no idea who "they" are, but stop drinking the Kool-Aid. If you could get a "super computer" for $300, everyone would do it. A cheap performance build will run circles around it. The PS3 is setup for video gaming; it can do it so well because that is the specific application of it. If you want a computer, buy a computer.

    Actually... the cell is setup for complex multithreaded apps, aka, not most games.

    But the rest of it is a game system.

    Cell = multi-thread king.

    But nothing useful is written for multi-thread CPU's so its stupid.

    Core 2 Duo's are faster in benchmarks.

    Understand that, just thought they wrote that flavor of yellow dog just for the ps3 to have the ability to use the multi thread cpu's. But you guys have a point now a days its so damn cheap to build a decent computer...

    7 cores? 4 cores are barely outperforming 2 cores....

    Wait for the new AMD CPUs and build a pc. Nothing will be faster. If you know what your doing and you are able to tune it out good it will be kick ass.
