Was just wondering if any of you guys bowl, if so, what's your average?

I was on my way to a 300 tonight, until some douche bag F'ed me up in the next lane.

I was so pissed, threw the rest of the game off.

They apologized, but that won't turn back time now will it!?

Anyways, finished out with a 236 which isn't that bad...

    Maybe next week.

My brother and I both bowl. His left handed (primary) average in one of the several leagues he's in is in the 240's... His right handed average is in the high 190's.

His record one evening is 300-240-300 for an 840 series. Not too shabby...

I'm runnin with a 179 (ouch) now because of my Tendinitis injury, and I recent removed my big toenail with brute force... (MORE ouch). I've been doing not-so-great the last 6 weeks or so...

Nice job with the 236. What did you leave in the 9th?

Awesome stuff, wish I was %100 consistent 200+

    I've yet to get a 300.

The 8th was a 9 and a miss on the spare with the HEAD pin, which is easy, but I was pissed.

And I didn't care really about the rest of the game, so I had a 7-2 in the 9th, and 7/X in the 10th... which should of been XXX but I let my anger get the best of me.

    Oooh...My favorite!

I bowl in a couple leagues...My average has dropped down to 205 this year, no idea why, the last two years I was averaging 220+...

I have two balls. One is a Storm Special Agent which I bought used about 3 years ago. I've bowled countless 300s with it (two league 300s) and it's held my highest average. For some reason I decided to get another ball over the summer, I picked up the Virtual Energy and it dropped my average to around 205...I just switched back to my Special Agent last Monday and shot a 690. I'm going to get that ball resurfaced and de-oiled and stick with it.

I also must mention I bowl really unconventionally. I only use two fingers, no thumb, like a lot of kids do to try and hook it. Difference is, I'm actually good and consistent for the most part.

Also I've yet to bowl an 800. In January I bowled a 300 and 290 to open my series and fell flat on my face with a 204 for a 794....Talk about epic fail.

That's my second league 300, January of this year. And we lost. Same thing with my first league 300 in 2006. We finally won a game in April 09 when I bowled a 300.

Here's a 300 during glow bowling...Yes glow bowling. Ball fresh out of the bag on a cold ass winter night.

My plaque from earlier this year. I have one from my 2006 game too. Also I have a 300 ring.

The nicest plaque I've ever gotten, it's a quality item unlike the fake wood plaques.

Awesome stuff man, I only hope to be able to accomplish that within time.

I also bowl unconventionally. I only use two fingers, no thumb, and I use a straight ball, with a **** ton of hook.

Also, using a 12 lb ball. Usual speed is 14 mph when I'm tired.

I've only bowled 1 league this year, it was a co-ed team league, we came in 3rd place.. and I was awarded "Best Average Improvement".

I've only been bowling once a week for almost a year now, and half that time I was a "Straight" bowler, then decided to go the hooking route, and been practicing that ever since, improved my game drastically.

Man 12lb ball? Go to 14 or 15 and you'll up your pins by a lot. By straight ball you mean you're using a plastic ball? I started that way too, I actually still have that ball as my spare ball. It was also the first ball I threw a 300 with.

A resin ball drilled to fit your hand is the best tool you can have, you don't have to crank it so much so you can save your wrist further down the road. Try and let the ball do most of the work type of thing. You can pick up a Storm Furious or Storm Fast for $100 drilled, they are one of the best value balls you can get out there. I'm thinking of getting one for ****s and giggles, one of my buddies has the Fast and that thing just rips through oil like it's not even there.

I'm only throwing a 12 at 15mph and you want me to go heavier? It gets tiring.. and doubtful I can throw it at the same speed.

I do want a better ball though.

And yeah, I guess it's plastic.. I picked it up for $10 and had it drilled. It's a #24 Jeff Gordan ball (which I'm not a fan of nascar) but I wanted a cheap ball.

You can't throw faster? Do you hold the ball with two hands or curl it up on your forearm? I have it on my forearm and can easily get mid 17s without any trouble and I actually have to ramp it up that high once the oil goes away. When the oil is fresh and normal I can keep it in the 16s and bury the pocket all day.

Dude, ditch that plastic junker! Or at least make it your spare ball. I thought I was good with my plastic Columbia ball when I had 185 average a few years ago...Then I got the Special Agent and starting rocking ****. That was back before I looked where I stood or actually had a mark I shot for. Those two things plus a ball designed to massacre the pocket raised my average to the 220s where it (usually) is.

You should be able to pick up a nice ball from your alley's pro shop if they have used ball deals. I got my Special Agent drilled for like $60 out the door solely because it was used. That's like $100 off the ball price alone not including drilling.

Before you just blindly buy a ball, talk with your local pro shop owner/worker and have them watch you throw a few practice balls so they can see your style and ability. They will point you in the right direction as far as ball, weight, grip, your strength, etc etc. It's well worth it to spend whatever money to have a ball do what you want it to most of the time. If you can't get the speed up, they will drill the ball to have more length and break further down the lane. They will suggest at least a 14lb ball if you want any consistency and pin action, a 12lb ball just won't cut it.

I use 1 hand to throw it down, don't curl up really, just hold my 2 fingers in it, walk down, and chuck it (so to speak).

I can throw it straight at 20 mph, but when I curve, 15-16 max.. it's weird.

Not weird, physics. Higher backswing = More forward speed. I can whack upwards of 26-27mph throwing straight with all my fingers in the ball.

The key to bowling with two fingers is to try and replicate a full fingered backswing as much as possible. Obviously you can't go back as far because your thumb isn't securing the ball to your hand, but you need the speed and motion so you can have the ever important follow through.

I guess you can say I don't really have a back swing, not a big one anyway.
