I am so stinkin' mad I could spit nails. I am ecstatic they are bringing back Knight Rider, at least trying to revive it, as it was partly responsible for my interest in Pontiac that just grew from there and never died. However they are bringing it back as a Ford Mustang. Thats just friggin' WRONG.

They could have used the GTO or something, anything but a Ford. Geesh. What is the world coming to?

I think the Camaro would be a good car to use.

I'll be joining you UR LOSN, just name the place. My wife ran into the room when I was screaming at the commercial I saw for it on TV asking what was wrong. I said they are using a Ford in the new Knight Rider.

Of course all I got was this look "And..?"

Pontiac made "The last Ride" with the GTO, why not make another?

heck in Knight Rider 2000, they used the banshee..the prototype to the fourth gen's. surely they have a new prototype for the new TA....since the GTO didnt pass the new airbag standards......or at least use the G8!!! that is a badass car

I didn't know that about the GTO airbag. They are supposed to bring the GTO back also. I want one SOOO bad but who can afford 'em? They made the last one's in '06 and they still have brand new ones that no one has even bought yet.
They do have several drawings and stuff of the New T.A. Look on my profile. You cant see it very well, but I have a pic and it shows the T.A. in different colors and styles.
I guess theres a black one in my photos.

I cant remember who the guy was, but he was some presidential regional over it all director of everything from Pontiac and in an interview he did, they admitted that the GTO was priced to high and their distribution of the GTO was also way off base and is probably what caused such lackluster sales. I would have rather they corrected what they saw was wrong (including the air bag thing, though I was not aware of that) and just keep selling it.

I test drove an '06. That young salesman said "I want you to be comfortable, drive it like it's yours". I laughed "Oh I'm gonna take you the test drive of your life." And he thought I was kidding. I came to a dead stop. I Got First,Second, and a Third gear scratch. I only let up cuz we were getting sideways. He was giggling like a school girl. I told him to put new tires on it before I buy it. haha Man I wanted that car!!! We are still looking. It has to be Black on black,6 speed,'05 or '06. Gotta be the LS2! That one was Silver. 4 car payments is too many!!

yeah the GTO will return along with the Camaro at the end of 2008 for 2009 based on the new ZetaII platform. I have had a subscription to GMHightech Performance magazine for the past 5 years. all of the story is in it.

If I dont get a G8 this year, I will be purchasing a GTO. I test drove a midnight blue/6spd, with the salesman in the back, and my friend in the passenger seat. I liked the sticks for one reason...the autos...when you put it in gear..you can feal the back end move down a good 4 inches for suspension load. I HATED that.

anyways, we beat the ever loving piss out of this car for 45min. the guy was trying to play it cool, like he knew about the car and what it can do... he didnt like us after that.

oh well!!!! there are quite a few up here with less than 3K miles on them. but I want a midnight blue one, or a yellow.

Do Not get Yellow!! I love the Blue gauges! If you get a G8, you'll end up regreting it later. Faster is worth the extra insurance

I am sure I will get banned for this but I think that the last style of GTO were fugly. A grand am looks more aggressive IMO. I have never drove one, but I am sure they are nice cars but their looks just don't do it for me. They look like a 2 dr family car. Please don't kill me

Just kidding. I will tell you something that may be a little shocking.

The GTO has been in the works since about 1989, can you believe that? When I had my Fiero, I was reading about what all they had planned for the 1989 model year.

For the Fiero, they had a supercharged V6 in the works and even had one built and was testing it but of course they canned the Fiero in '88 IIRC. But at that time they were already discussing bringing back the GTO and had some plans all laid out. Wanna guess what platform they were going to use? Yep, the Grand Am. They were going to re-badge the Grand Am and put in new motor and call it a GTO. They had pictures of one already done up. Remember the GA's with the straight back window. Thats the one!

I thought then they were going down a dangerous path. My mom owned a GTO and I still remember that beast to this day and just putting Grand Am and GTO in the same sentence was repulsive to me.

But lo and behold, they finally get the GTO here and what did they do. Made it look like a dressed down GA. Dont get me wrong, I still wouldnt mind having one despite its visual shortcomings. I think Pontiac really dropped the ball in the GTO particularly in the fact they didint make it look like the original GTO and in the fact they did not come up with a package worthy of the Judge badge. The baby boomers that are starting to retire now would have ate it up I believe. Need proof? Look at the Mustang in particular and its resemblance to the old platform while still remaining current and its popularity and others like the Charger.

Yeah, Pontiac missed the boat. They could have made a GTO for the masses and a Judge for the more elite I guess, something along he lines of the LS9 engine going in the new Corvette.

Yeah, I agree with you on the looks. Pontiac got the performance part of it down, but they missed in the appearance. Heck, Ive seen picks of the proposed Dodge Barracuda and its as true to form as any retro car I have seen yet (with the exception of the wheels in my opinion). It just further contrasts how bad Pontiac missed it with the look of the GTO.

I don't know for sure that I really like the idea of trying to bring back the looks of an old muscle car. They do look good but it seems to me like it is more desperation than anything. I myself would prefer to see something totally new, The new "old looking muscle cars" look more like over sized Hotwheels. I for one would rather spend the cash on a real well built muscle car. Don't get me wrong I think the new Camaro's look bad ass but I would prefer a real one any day.

Well they are primarily doing it for the baby boomer generation that are starting to retire now and want to relive their youth and many of them have money to spend. I would expect that there will be others that follow in short time
