The LS1 is a far superior engine.

color is better on the first one but the second would be my choice too :)
well, the lt1 makes a better 383 stroker...but the ls1 has better parts and way more readily available lately at any junkyard. i know, 1-3 gen parts will fit on the lt block..but do you really want to deal with pulling your drive accessories to do a tune up? i didnt think so...just go ls1!!
The LT1 has opti-spark for one. It tends to go out now and then and is annoying to fix. The LT1 can be known for blown headgaskets as well.
The LS1 block is aluminum, the LT1 block is iron. The LT1 engine weighs slightly more, but the LT1 car will weigh less than the LS1, because of the options in an LS1, bigger brakes, etc.
The LS1 makes more power than the LT1 right from the start.
The LT1 has that torque punch, but the LS1 walks over the LT1 in the top end.
The LT1 is your standard 350, the LS1 is not, it's a 346ci MACHINE.
There really isn't much wrong with the LT1, so don't stray away, but the LS1 can be had and is just so good for only a few more $$$. The aftermarket for LS1 parts is huge.
If you got any questions, feel free to ask me, I know the basics, but I don't know everything.
Some food for thought. I have a stalled auto, LS1, with bolt-ons, drag radials and raced an LT1 w/150 shot and slicks, he got me by a car, maybe 2. The LS1 still an amazing engine and can do wonders with bolt-ons and other mods. There's a reason it's well known and swapped into mustangs, evos, civics, beetle's, fiero's, s-10s, u name it man.
Don't listen to people putting down the auto, i'll rape any manual transmission with the same mods as me, you can't outshift a computer and a stalled auto, impossible.
If you want to see a video of my car, type in "allbaugh04" on youtube or search for "SS4000", i have some videos on there. Enjoy.
