I found a guy willing to trade me even up for my 1995 ford ranger xlt 2wd (4cylinder, 5 speed), he has a 1989 chevy 3/4 ton, 4x4, regular cab. 4 speed with a granny gear. It has the 350 v8. the 4x4 works good, the motor could use a tune up he says, it has a rough idle when started but once it warms up it runs fine. needs other minor fixes. I've been looking for something like this to have for a play toy, plus having a truck around the house is nice.

do you guys think this will be a good trade? the guy wants my ranger cause he drives alot and the chevy will get horrible gas mileage.

Any known issues to look out for?

    Thanks

    Josh

Carb might need a rebuild. Look for rust.

i'd trade him straight up in a heartbeat! The 350 V8 is a very realible, very easy to work on, cheap to maintain motor and its cheap to replace too if needed. I knew one guy with an 89 with 240,000 and it ran fine. My wifes dad had a 91 and he sold it with 270,000 miles and it drove like a dream. All of these had the original drivelines in them.

Though not common here in OK, look for rust on the rear fender lips and the cab corners, other than that you should be good to go! 1988-1998 Chevy P/U were very well built and the aftermarket potential is endless.

BTW, 89 should be TBI (88 was too), pretty easy to rebuild with the 2 fuel injectors in the unit. Rebuilt kit for the TBI is dirt cheap IIRC...

350 is such a great engine. parts would not be unreasonably priced because so many cars and trucks used it.

Every one around here has at least one 350 sitting in their shed waiting to go in a car or truck.
