Looks good so far...how many miles are on that thing...piston tops look really carbon free...did you clean them before taking pics? JW.
Yikes on the FRAM filter...and yikes on the balance shaft..get rid of that thing too![]()
Looks good. I personally like balance in the motor. But that's always preference/opinion. Why didn't you unbolt and leave the PS pump in the car?
The car has 185000 miles on it the guy i bought it from said all orig but i dont know know after seeing it
as far as the balance shaft goes not sure if im leaving it in or not our intstructor was telling us its there to keep idle smooth and wont hurt performance any noticable amount
rebuilding it just for my own experiance and adding some go fast parts aswell + i just put a tep trans in might aswell make sure the engine will last just as long as the new trans
s1x,headers,p&p blower, tune, devils own,3.4 mps smoothflow till tuning gets figured out the 3.2 maybe, theres more just not quite awake yet
As for the filter I actually use k&n but az is always out so i was stuck using fram
As for ps pump im changing out the rack anyway and we were losing light so it was just faster
May want to add some #105 springs if your going that route and just make sure you have a new timing chain and dampener. Should also delete evap/egr.
Im in ca so egr avap stays otherwise it would already be gone
also yea 105#s ls lifters colder plugs 180tstat getting the jp single chainset with cam
More i think about it I probably will just work out the bugs and tuning after my build and be done with it more on to building my 86 c30 and wasting money on it for a while it will be a hell of alot cheaper lol
I would stay away from the devil's own. Not many people have been totally happy with them and always end up getting rid of them.
As for the PS pump, I always found it easier to just remove the two bolts from from the head and the pump falls off rather than try and mess around with getting the line off. Always seems to be a pain.
what problems are people having? I've been using it for almost a year and have had no problems at all, it's great for boosted engines.I would stay away from the devil's own. Not many people have been totally happy with them and always end up getting rid of them.
and besides a couple of people having leakage issuse i havent heard anything bad about devils own in ca i only have access to 91 octane or 100 octane at 7 bucks a gallon
I mean i know its not n20 in in its power making but it helps with cooling intake charge and octane so how is it bad
day 2 of tear down

its How we get a grade in our class no botton end rebuild no shiney pass no master tech certificate
Plus the blocks going to the machine shop to get cleaned up and make sure everythings perfecto
I didn't say that it doesn't work or doesn't help.
I was just saying that I have known people that put them on and they didn't work exactly right or they had problems with them. And others that have put them on, and ended up taking them off and selling them.
I guess more of just a warning to do some research first. I don't really have any experience with them. And while I am sure they work, I was simply saying I have known people that were not happy with them.
Well besides the machine work Its all pretty simple when you actually do it it isnt bad
this is my first complete tear down and its going way to smooth
Theres a few specialty tools like pulley pullers and stuff other then that a basic tool set gets the job done
