Times are getting tough everywhere you go. I have been wanting to get rid of my 1998 Grand Prix GT for something newer but have changed my mindset. I want to join the 200,000 Mile club with my grand prix and save cash up for a new car instead of getting another car loan.

Can anyone who is currently driving a grand prix with 200,000+ miles or have in the past give any suggestions to maintainance musts & any other information on how you got your car to last you that long?

How many people do we have on this site in this club? Post if you are on miles you currently have on your grand prix. Pictures if you want would be cool too but not needed.

I am not there yet only at 144,000 miles with a 1998 grand prix gt.

Thats funny bc my pass side back one broke too right about 150 152,000 miles too..so save up for some springs and struts at around 150,000. I now have 178,874 miles on my gt. just change all fluids religously and wash and wax and u should be fine.....ohh and i wouldnt suggest getting the monroe quik struts they are liftime warranted but i already broke 2 and the ride isnt that great unless your riding on perfectly flat roads...i am in pa though and pennsylvania is pothole capitol of the usa..lol.....i also have 134,000 on my gtp....i love these cars though they are both 98's and both are black...lol

I have a car over 200K. Being that our motors will usually last well past that the bigger concerns are maintenance. When I say maintenance I mean fixing issues as they happen. If the struts are bad, get them done. Theoretically if you kept up on fixing all the items that you noticed as they went bad, your car would last indefinately.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

    I have 224k on my 97 GTP.

Just keep up on the maintenance. Change oil, filter, tranny fluid, fuel filter, spark plugs, coolant, wires, O2 sensor, etc, etc at suggested intervals. And don't beat the **** out of it.

222k on my GP GTP, new heads, radiator, needs a strut mount and rear struts, new egr, needs a new cat still, new water pump, all top end has been rebuilt and all new gaskets, needs a hub bearing on the right, tie rod ends, and a wheel speed sensor (so another hub bearing) on the left. Thats it for now, atleast that i can think of, oh also under the gas door needs metal, i have a about 4x6 rust spot from people over flowing the tank and not cleanin it off.

Also have 184k on my cherokee with the factory engine and tranny. Did replace the rear end with the heavier Chrysler 8.25 instead of the Dana 35

That rust is not from gas. Gasoline does not cause rust. The rust is there from the way the factory put together and sealed (or didn't seal) the body panels. Mine got one or two bubbles, and I searched around till I found where the water was getting inbetween the panels in the fender. Then I sealed it with seal sealer. No more rust since then.

so basically water is coming from the fenderwell and getting caught in the body seem? Well thats good to know, i figured it was from gas sitting on the paint eating through it until it was soft enough for water to get into the primer. So basically just like the old ford explorers, wish i would of thought about that before i inserted foot in mouth lol

98 GTP with 236K miles. Everything is original except for brakes supercharger coupler and the little coolant elbow. I do however have a ABS/Trac light and ordered the new hubs and it just started doing the 1st gear shudder on take off. Its been such a good car i just might contact triple edge.
