So at my job (construction company) there’s a lot of my co-workers that are comprised of guys who are into cars and modding them. My department just got a new plumber foreman and he’s like 60-something and is a pretty laid-back kinda guy. So he and I got talking about what we did over the weekend and yadda-yadda-yadda got into the topic of cars and that I went to the nearby junkyard and then went straight to the dragstrip with stuff in the trunk from the junkyard lol.

He then asked what I drove and I modestly said a 98 grand prix 4-dr sedan. I told him its nothing special and that I like the car for what it is. I told him I sucked at the track this past weekend and that I need some time to tune and get summer tires (ran with michellin hydroedges ). He asked what does my car run, and he started splurting numbers like 15 seconds, and I kinda gave a light smirk as I tried to contain my composure of blurting out laughing. He looked puzzled and then tried to guess again and then he said, “then 16 seconds isn’t sooo bad right?”. At that point I smiled and said, “my car’s trying to break 12s”, and his eyes opened wide and jaw dropped. He said my car has got to be heavily modified, but I clearly told him, just bolt-ons and because I can run bolt-ons was due to it being supercharged. He was more around the big blocks and carburetors so he was not so familiar with today’s electronics and fuel-injection. Also he asked if it’s a trailer-queen and I again smiled and said its my DD and I drive it wherever.

Nice......some days I miss my 375hp bragging rights........but it'll all be worth it in the end. It still looks great.

So how did you do at the track?

i did horrible on this new tune. didnt do much on the nearly new tires of michellin hydroedges. i was getting 2.2-2.3 60'. i was running on the 3.4"MPS though, but was trapping 104mph at 13.5s. i tried a b4 and after of the e-cutout and with it closed, my mph was 102-103 w/it closed, and with it opened netted my 104mph trap. i tried the 3.2" but i still mustered 13.5 and horrible 60' with same 105mph trap speed.
my 'new' tune consisted of stock AE enrichment table, and lower MAF table at 8000-11500, and consistant PE vs TIME table. my "WB" says i can run virutally KR-Free if it dials in at 10.2-10.5(also did this without the alky mind u-see other post in tuning section). my tim was at 21* but again i get KR at the shifts from 2-3. so i still need to tune the car more up top.

Thats a good story. Reminds me of this one time...

I can remember being at a car show down town and this girl was checking out my car, and she asked if it was mine, and we got to talking and she just couldn't believe it ran the times it did, she didn't doubt it, cause I had my best time slip in my folder. She said she has a late 60's Fire Bird down the street also in the show and shes only a little ahead of me in the 1/4 and she has it gutted, with a bored small block in it. She just couldn't believe that a little front wheel drive V6 could do what it does...almost to the point she was getting mad. It was kinda funny.

The thing that amazes me after owning a few modded f-bodies is that I can get almost the same performance with the gtp and I don't have to park it come November
