What is the average oil consumption on these engines? I have a 2007 with 30,000 miles and the last oil change at 6500 miles with 37% oil life left it was 2 quarts low. With this oil change currently 1500 miles into it I show 3/4 quarts low. It does not smoke in the least. Any suggestions?

May have something to do with it still having low miles ect. Do you do the oil changes yourself? If not almost sounds like they werent putting enough oil in there in the first place. Check it as soon as the oil change is done to ensure that enough oiil was added....I would also bring it back to the dealer if you bought it new and question them about it...2 quarts seems odd to me

GM says 1 quart per 1000 miles is ok, if I remember correctly..... and have you changed your PCV valve yet, a stuck/dirty one will cause some oil consumption issues

I got my car with 9K miles and it has almost 56K now. It has never used enough oil to add any between changes with 3K to 5K change intervals.

Every once in a while somemone will run into what you describe. I remember reading a long thread about this on CGP about a year ago. He fought with the dealer for quite a while. iirc

That 1qt per 1000 miles is excessive IMO. I bought a new Sabre 1100 in 01 and it used about 1 qt per 1000 miles. The dealer told me this was an acceptable amount, according to the manufacturer.

On long trips I had to carry oil with me. My 02, 03 and 04 Sabres used almost no oil. fwiw on the 01 the oil was blowing out the exhaust, but wasn't detectable, until brother inlaw and I took a trip from St Louis to Russellville Arkansas. I led the whole trip. When we got there he noticed there was a black film all over him. Me? I was pretty clean except for the occasional bug splatter.

I agree, 1 quart in 1000 miles is pretty darn excessive to me. I have a 117k on my GP and its never used oil with the exception of what little leaked out the valve cover before I got that fixed.

If you are using a 5W-30 oil, try switching to a 10W-30. 10W-30 oil is more shear stable and might help cut that consumption down, but Id be pounding the dealer though. Be certain there are no leaks anywhere. What oil and filter are you using now?

Only time my car has used oil was with PCV valve from Auto Zone. Went back to a AC Delco PCV valve and it's great. It used a little oil between changes until I did my gaskets. Found it pooling onto the LIM. After gasket job it uses none.

I had also asked about excessive oil consumption on a 04 GP. I can't remember when the PCV valve was last changed. Can someone give me a few pointers. I have not changed it myself on this car.
