Need Some Input On a GP

Ya These cars are sweet!!! Very good cars. The only time mine didn't start was when I listened to the radio too long with the car off. But then all I have to do is get it jumped and then put it on the charger over night and it has ran great since that.
These cars are very dependable and you still can have fun with them if you know what I mean.

If your wife is short she will not like this car. The person I bought my car off was selling it because they could not see very good because of being short and how the seat is in the car.

One thing that sucks about these cars is that they have the worst turning radius I have ever seen. My parents Dodge Intrepid turns better then mine. The Intrepid's turning radius is 37.5 and thats a full size car the Grand Prix is 39. So it can be a little hard to get into parking spots some times, usually I have to swing it out like a semi to get into a parking spot between the lines.

now that you mention the turning radius..... I think back to both my 95's(mine and my bros). I kinda got used to it...but compare to my new ones.. it is a night and day difference.

Thank you both for your help. bkaab, I'll be in touch if I come up with anything. A couple of cars popped up on Craigs List last night that im really interested in so we will have to see. My personal preference would be for the GP, but I wont be the one driving it full time so she ultimately has the final say in it.

good buy point you can throw at the wife:

1. easy to work on"JUST IN CASE"
2. very reliable
3. collect the whole set
4. its a different color.

She really wanted a Hyundai Santa Fe and one of those popped up on Craigs List last night for a very good price, so I hope to get to check that out. Though, we had another small ice storm here last night so I dont know how realistic that is.

I've always speculated how those imports handle snow and such, but after a lot of people telling me how surprised they were with their g/f import car handling the ice/snow better than their own car, It really makes me think and I havn't come up with anything, so I too would like to know what everyone else thinks on how they handle winter...

Well, unfortunately, unless winter continues to drag on I doubt we would get any experience with it this winter in the snow and ice. She wanted a Mustang at one point in time and I just flat out refused. Not so much for the brand as much as it was that she has never drove a rear wheel drive vehicle in any type of foul weather.

Yah, well there is bound to be plenty of rebuilders for sale in this kind of weather, you said you love to work on cars!

The is only one major problem with the 3100's and thats the block has a hole for a distrubtor but when gm changed the to coil pack setup. The plugged the whole for it with soild plug and o-ring seal. And if that seal goes the engine will spew oil like there's no tomrrow. And the 3100's are known for blowing lower intake gaskets around 100k. But other then that there a good engine. Oh yea one thing the trubo setup would work with the engine but it will take A LOT of custom tuning to get it right. And there is a trick that I know for changeing the back three plugs on a 3.1 3100. Take the alternator sp? off bracket and call and set it up ontop of the engine and there you go a clear shot to the back three and no un hooking dog bones or nothing.

ehhh dunno about you, but prepare to be underwhelmed by the santa fe... quite cheaply put together.... and underpowered. :th_nervous: but i can understand making the wife happy :)

I dunno, my neighbors husband had one and I got to drive it before he passed away, but it was a V6 and it seemed rather responsive. Not a GP mind you but it was no slouch.

I want something with a reliable engine. And outside of the 3800 an import is about the only thing I would buy with high mileage. I have not found any regals yet, at least none in our price range.

the ONLY import I will buy and actually kep for a daily driver is a Honda. the rest are junk.
