I found this to be quite interesting. This is an L67 being put into an Isuzu Amigo which is very similar to the Isuzu Rodeo I bought. Its rear wheel drive also.

Kinda found it interesting that they would use the L67 platform, but hey, if it works it works.

Jeeps I can see, RX-7, would have never thought of that. I just thought it was another testament to not only the versatility of the platform, but its longevity. I mean, who is going to go through the trouble to do a swap like that and use an engine that has a shoty track record? To me, him using the L67 says that he has confidence in its durability and longevity.

Alas, however, there will be no swap in my immediate future. I did some pricing on some stuff just to see what it would run. I found complete, rebuilt engine tranny combos for around $1300 should the need ever arise. A complete rebuild kit for the tranny is just over $200. Clutch will run around $150, which I have never replaced before in my life. Ive helped on replacing one before but never done it myself.

So it will be interesting. Im hoping the Rodeo will make a long term storm chase vehicle. Im going to have to work on some laptop stands and radio mountings in the spring.

Thats odd. I would love to own a rotory engine vehicle though or even a flat head like the subarus.

I think the flat 4 configuration is an awesome set up.

He even made his own customer IC setup. And fabbed his own Headers for the RWD application. That guy has some serious time to devote to such a project. I am sure Tranny can atest to the same thing!

If I had a little more time and perhaps a bit more money, I would be tempted to try such a thing. But right now I'll have to pass. The GP has enough traction issues and its FWD and Automatic I can imagine the traction problems with it in a RWD and 5 speed or even with an Automatic Tranny.

Overseas there are quite a few guys with Toyota 4-Runners and Jeeps that do L67 swaps for 4x4 applications and having the great low end torque for climbing without the huge cost, well other than fab work!

i theorize that a 3800 could be put with a 4wd drivetrain from the early 90's s10's that had the 2.8 motor w/4wd. not sure how the tc/trans would hold up, but that would make the most sense to me.

I can tell you how well a 2.8 S10 converter will hold up, that is what is in my Cutlass! Is pulling the left front wheel off the ground when I launch good enough for you?

Gosh, sounds like it needs to be in a Grand Prix too.

Naaa, thats just the beauty of rwd with an engine that makes gobs of torque down low, good gearing, and tires that work good. I can only stall that converter to 2300 rpm before it pushes the front tires, so if THAT doesnt spell out to people that want to get higher stall converters with an M90 I dont know what will! I also cut mid to low 1.6 60' times with that converter. Stock GTP converters stall to around 3K out of the box and the cars dont hook up either. My original intentions were to get around 3K out of that converter but it didnt work out that way lol, at least the car launches hard with it! When I do upgrade the converter for the turbo upgrade it will be in the 2800-3200 range.
