Well i want something this summer to mess around with, idk if it's just me or alot of people are like this but i get sick of what im driving after a few months. Well im not really getitng sick of the gtp i just want someone else, I still wanna mod her up this summer and i can't wait, but im thinking about getting a 98-00 vdub passat, I think i want one with the 2.8 6 cylinder cause idk if the 1.8 turbo has enough balls. I just like the way they look and i absolutly love the interior. I want want with the black leather cause it looks really nice, Im not intirely impressed with my gtp's leather quality, but i still love her. Well anyways what do you guys think about the european wind which is also known as the passat ? Im sure their a big headach to fix and what not but it will be a summer beater or ill keep it for the winter months.

I wouldn't. Volkswagon's don't take abuse very well. And don't get me started on the labor. My sister's entire electrical system failed in her Jetta and they charged her $500 to shut her sunroof manually. Unless you plan on going completely broke once it comes time to repair the cars don't do it.

dam sounds like they have alot of problems, i thought german engineering was decent. If i could find one for like 2500 i would like to drive it into the ground or something they just look nice, but i didn't relize they had that many problems with them.

Oh yeah, especially if you mistreat them. My sister treated her Jetta like **** and now it actually is a piece of ****. I'm sure that if you drove it really nicely you wouldn't have too many problems but if you're looking for a Passat for $2500 it's probably going to be a ****box on wheels lol.

well i seen a bunch on craigslist in my state and the stae over for decent prics from 2500-5000 which is all i would wanna spend, i wouldnt beat on it that much in fact i think i would just wanna drive back and fourth to work with it this summer which is like 6 miles from where i live. I plan on modding my gtp this summer soo i figured i caould have another car to drive around with and keep the gtp in my garage until i finish it. I think seeing so many passats in criagslist tells you something.

DON'T be Bashing on the Pinto!!! They are SWEET little cars!! I almost bought one over my GP. They can very sporty looking cars and they don't break and easy to work on. I love the Pinto and the Gremlin. The Pinto in no why should be compared to the German junk.

I say get a gen 1 gtp a 94-96. Because if you get a gen 1 gtp hpt has the sowftware to support runing for the LQ1 3.4 and they got hella more balls then the vw's

the 3.4 may have more 'balls' as you say, but you're not gonna win any reliability rewards with a 3.4. maintenance costs are way high on the 3.4 not to mention harder to work on than just about any other gm motor.

besides... the point of the thread isnt about which car has more 'balls' which is a funny term for cars anyway... but rather weather or not the passat is a good choice for a daily driver/beater type car.
