I'm a Field Service Tech/Valve + Wellhead Tech.... mostly valve and wellhead tech nowadays since the big slow down in the oil industry.
Basically I build and test wellheads such as tubing heads, casing heads, speed heads, trees, etc for oil and gas producing wells. We build them in complete hook ups ready to go out in the field and be installed. On the valve side, I mostly do reman, I completely tear them down and rebuild them to be installed on trees or heads. We also do alot of Frac equipment too which has pretty much kept us afloat in this slow down. The equipment we test go from anywhere between 3,000 PSI - 30,000 PSI. There ticking time bombs and there is very little room for error. There are 4 of us and we're the best of the best, work very well together and get the **** knocked out.
When I do the Field work, I drive (company truck of course) anywhere from 20 miles to 300 miles to install the equipment above on wells per customer requests. Lately though, I pretty much ONLY work in the shop which is fine by me. Its nice going home every night verses being on the road for days away from home, sleeping in the truck, or staying at a dive hotel in the middle of nowhere...
