2004 Mercedes-Benz CL55 AMG (next to my Grand Prix):

Both cars, me (the tall, goofy one), and the salesman:

I've been seriously looking for a new car for over a year now, but I hadn't found what I was looking for. I went to a dealership to look at another car, which was already sold when I got there. After talking to the salesman about what I wanted, I wound up sitting in the CL55.

I was immediately intrigued, but took a couple of days to cool off and research the car before taking a test drive. After driving it, I was hooked. The car is solid, luxurious, comfortable, and powerful (5.5L supercharged V8, 493 HP, 516 ft-lbf). The car is so smooth and poised, however, that you barely realize how powerful it is until you see the speedometer needle.

Overall, I paid $39,000 for it. Considering that it cost around $117,000 new, I'd say I got a pretty good deal.

I had a good run with the GP. I bought her new in 2002, and here's her mileage when I trader her in:

She was a great car, and after deciding to sell her I felt a little sad. It's nothing a little German tailpipe music can't cure.

so what pulled you towards the mercedes brand? could you have not spent your money in a different place and gotten more for what you paid?

just wondering. im not a giant fan of high end luxury or exotics because of their bang for the buck.

If it were new I'd agree with you. I can't see myself ever paying the price for a new one (very few cars are worth the price they charge for the new). However, this car still feels and drives like a $100,000 car. I can't find any other car on the market where you can get this level of luxury and performance for under $40,000 (especially with under 35,000 mi). I'd say I got a heck of a deal on it.

It finally stopped raining, so I was able to get her cleaned up and take some pictures:

(The star emblem will be replaced by the dealer once the part comes in.)

The seats are amazingly comfortable, and come with heat, cooling, and massage. They'd make a great retrofit into a GP.

    The supercharger's sideways!

This car is simply incredible to drive. It's so comfortable and controlled around town, but when you get on it at any speed, in any gear, it just goes. I want to get it on a track to really experience its capabilities.

I have to admit, I love that dash layout! I am not a huge of any fake wood interior though. And YES that Supercharger is facing the wrong way

I am getting a good chuckle out of that baby tranny cooler too. I do love the air induction ports on both sides of the highbeam lights leading back to the SC. Pretty snazzy indeed!

The picture's not that great, but it's actually real wood (handcarved IIRC). It looks a lot better in person, and it gives a nice, solid sound when you knock on it.

I love the way the interior looks. Black on black can sometimes be a little severe, but this car has enough wood and chrome to break up the monotony without being over the top.

As for the "tranny cooler", I think that's actually the A/C condenser. I haven't poked around the engine bay too much yet, but I believe the intercooler is the big one you see in the picture, then the radiator is behind it, and the oil cooler is underneath those in the lower grille.
