They have actually made them quite a while, they just weren't available in the states until recently. Having had two Grand Cherokees, I was on a few Jeep boards and there were several members overseas that had the regular Cherokees with diesels in them.

The liberty has one. I tthink it also might be an option on the commander. Oh I forgot the Cherokee has one too as stated above.
