Lori you are back!!! Havent seen you on here in a while! Back to the RC thing... being winter and all me and a few friends got the itch and I bought 6 of the Losi Micro trucks which are 1/36 scale. I got 2 desert trucks where are a little bigger and 4 of the Micro Ts. He set up a carpet oval in his garage, about 20ft x 10ft oval. Its fun to go play around and they are so small it works out perfect in the garage, any bigger and you are sol unless you go to the track since the weather is crap here this time of year. I put a handful of aluminum parts on my Desert truck and even as small and light as things are it did add a few oz. and slowed it down but its fine to play with. We bought some upgraded batteries and I have a brushless motor setup on the way but it is backordered so who knows when that will show up. For their size they are very fast with a few upgrades and the 20ft track isnt nearly large enough as you can rarely give them full throttle lol. Good fun though and keeps ya from going broke though they still arent cheap after you start upgrading!
I have a question where dose everyone buy thier RC parts ebay or local hobby shops. I need to get a lithium battery and charger and some new bodies. I dont like the way my Bandit looks.
I use a semi-local hobby shop that gets his stuff from Horizon and a few other places. He gives me a pretty good discount on stuff and also he doesnt pay shipping on his orders so that helps out also. Back when I was racing I always sat in the pits next to a guy that was THE guy to go to for batterys, motors, and tires and he had a few awesome connections on the team spec'd stuff, especially batteries. I bought a Turbo30 charger back then, damn expensive but it was nice to cycle and test batteries with and you definately knew the strong packs from the mediocre ones. I even built my own cell zapper about 10 years ago when zapping batteries seemed like the best way to get a little more voltage and less resistance out of them. My dad is an electronic engineer and primarily designed things until he went into management so he was always very helpful with this sort of stuff. I have been out of the hobby for about 6 years or more and cant believe how everything has changed. Lipo packs are hit and miss with the local guys I guess as the cost is still very high with them. I am a bit paranoid about using them even in the micro trucks from some of the stories I have heard and how explosive they can be. The guy that owns the shop I get my parts from is pretty big into airplanes and helicopters and said a guy that he flies with in the summer had a lipo pack in his car inside his tackle box, uncharged and not hooked to anything, and just the heat from the inside of the car on a summers day caused the pack to swell until it exploded! He told me the heat from the explosions are very intense with these packs and nothing like nicads or nimh packs. Anyways it burned the poor guys car's interior down to metal! This was just a little reciever pack for a chopper!
