do we have any resident experts on solar power generators? I'm curious if they are worth buying yet. I have sleep apnea so I use a cpap at night and have been thinking about ways to keep it going. I'm not opposed to buying a regular generator and still might, the problem is that most don't run on a full gas tank for 8+ hours.

I have another idea. The windmills have a 3 blade propeller design. why don't they use a design that is more like a jet engine or a turbo charger? theoretically, with that design they could be way more efficient. if it was me designing the thing, I would have the shaft come up from the ground and then have the blades run back down the shaft on the outside.

I am far from an expert but I did stay at a holiday inn express one time so I have that going for me. My neighbor just installed solar panels on their house last year and the jury is still out. It all depends on your location because of the sun angles throughout the year. The further north you are the less effective, or efficient, the solar panels will be. Not as much sun in the winter and snow will cover them. I have a portable Generac I can plug in my house. It will run the whole house without issue. If I did it again I would go with one of their permanent installed LP or gas generators. They kick on as soon as the power is out. Generac claims on their website the solar/electric generators can last up to 3 days. I would browse around their website and see what they have to offer. It all comes down to your application and needs.

ha ha ha. I live in south west Wyoming so i'm not sure if i'm in the zone for good solar, but I think I am because there is a solar power plant about 35 miles from my house. Another good thing is that my house faces the correct direction so the sun shines on the front part of it all day. at some point I want to add another garage, and when I do that, I feel it would be the best opportunity to buy and install the solar panels.

we have compressed natural gas going to the house, so it would be good to hard wire in a dual fuel generator with the cng line as the primary fuel.

if you have natural gas running to your house, you can get a generator that runs on NG.
