I'm wondering what "creative" fixes everyone has done to fix their cars, whether said fix has worked, or only worked for a short time, and whether it be to save money, or just out of sheer laziness.

I installed the Aem meth pump and tank on a piece of mdf last summer as a "temporary" thing, until I could figure out a better way to mount it. The board is bungee corded to the side of my trunk. Haven't gotten to the "permanent" mount yet. May never...

Out of laziness when my Regal popped the charcoal canister bs.. I deleted the code and smiled. Is that considered rigging it?

i did that too. but i went as far as capping the tb nipple off and just left the end of the vc line in the air lol

my vent tube on the filler neck tube rotted out, i put some hose and clamps to reconnect it so it would stop leaking gas out it lol pretty sure thats rigged....

oh iirc. both my e brake cables are modded with hose clamps due to the c clips rotting away. e brake does work like a champ.

    on my current '08? nothing.
    on my 96 saturn SL2/ a crapton.
although hard to kill the engine and trans, they were notorious for rot. drivin down the road one day the car was kinda swervin back and forth. front subframe rotted on left side so i pulled it in straight as possible and welded some metal patches on rotted subframe.
THEN drivin down the road in the winter one day i reached in the back seat for a 2 liter of soda. huge bulge in the carpet. floor boards behind pass. seat were gone and snow packed up in there.. pulled into shop, let it thaw out. pulled out the carpet then hammered and banged some sheet steel to form, some roofing tar to seal, and a bunch o sheet metal screws to secure.
then rear trailing arm mount rotted. found a longer trailing arm and mounted it further forward.
that thing had gremlins. drivin down the road and the wipers would just start goin. then stop wherever. nice sunny summer day and there i am drivin down the road with my wipers going!
cruise control was weird, too. id set it and it would shut off occasionally. other times it would go into 'speed up" mode.

glad i finally decided it was a wee too unsafe to drive and got my '08.
nothing jury rigged on my baby.

    - 4.0 bar stock-style Fuel Pressure Regulator - to get some extra head-room on injectors before upgrading again
    - Spacer plates on cradle AND hood brackets to minimize cutting hood brace for I/C'd supercharger
    - home-made 100mm MAF for 99-03 sensor - 4" AL tube with mounting plate welded on top (just installed screen to help idle)
    - NPT plugs in N/A lower intake injector ports, since I'm using S/C heads that hold injectors
    - Wideband 5v signal piped into EGR signal for scanning, rather than deal with A/D inputs on DHP PT

Nothing too wacky, off the top of my head, mostly money savers.

This post is bait, I ain't falling for it, haha. All you get is the tip of the iceberg. The GT has an air cleaner box clip made of coathanger and the GTP came with a rolled up business card as the key release pin thing. Still there. Cheap, lazy. I think I have replacements but hate digging for them.
All Grand Prix, all the time. 69 Model J, 99 GT & GTP coupes. All junk, haha.

    My turn,
On the grand am, well the AC compressor ring broke off when i went to fix the ac coil, then there was nothing to hold the clutch and pulley on, so i took some of that super duper glue Q-bond stuff and glued it on there, 4k miles later its still on there, recently it has been starting to screech though! The turn singal flasher/ 4 way switch would cut out randomly and smack the dash and it would come back, lived with that for a while, then pulled it apart and broke the whole bracket in half, glued that back together too! Radio display light are burned out, can use a flashlight and barely see them, so thats what i do. Snapped a few plastic vaccum hoses off during a tstat job. Got some rubber hose from an old dishwasher and put the pieces the together, like new. Battery is too big for the car so i just sits in there slanted. Foglight was glued together using a wegmans rewards keychain card. Coolant reservoir tank cap is in two pieces, have to pry out the cap with a screw driver to get it out. Then smack it back on, and screw on the mostly stripped cap.

That stuff was just on the grand am, on the explorer, well the temperature control thing went nuts and it would only switch over to heat, so i pulled the little motor out, cut up a sleeve for a from one of those long screws like for a rain gutter, bent it and shoved it in there, serves as a lever to switch it from hot to cold. Anytime you want to switch, you pullout the glove box and turn the lever, who needs automatic climate control anyway? Rivet for the power door lock motor was all screwed up when i got it, was like pulled out of the door, so i forced a screw in the remains of the rivet and its held to this day. Hinges for the rear glass broke off, drilled it from outside and put a bolt through and secured it with a nut on the inside. Fixed the wiring on the power unlock switch on driver side, but sometimes you close the door and it doesn't work, open the door back up and slam it, and it will normal begin working again. Trailer wiring is all kinds of messed up, wired through the tail lights themselves, brake lights and one turn signal work, forget which one does and which one doesn't, ah well. E brake is non existent. I accidently mixed up the hoses on the wiper spayer and when i hit the front button, the rear sprays, and vice versa, too lazy to fix it

the rubber donut exhaust hangars tend to stretch and sag so i use nylon tie wraps to keep them tucked up.
