What's up all? In the process of painting my house, and the plastic trim around the windows in my front door are all warped from heat & age. The wifes' solution is "get a new door". Too much B.S. They are both called 8"X6" door lites. The door and glass are fine, I just want the new plastic trim pieces (4). I found a place online (AllAboutDoors, com) to get trim w/glass, both for about $90 shipped. 4 pieces of plastic must be considerably cheaper somewhere else? Local Home Depot & Lowe's weren't any help. Does anyone have experience with this? Could you point me in the right direction? I'll just make some trim out of wood if I can't find replacements. GRRRRR.... Joys of home ownership...lol.

Pic in post #4 , sorry.

im not 100% sure what trim he needs. if its the door jams top and sill trim, home depot and lowes sells pre bent metal, bending your own is always nice if you have a metal break.

I just need the plastic trim around the 2 little windows in the door at the top.

new wood trim would work. pretty sure they sell that in plastic as well.

best way to cut plastic is with a power miter saw with paneling blade installed backwards or the plastic just chips and looks like crap. a wrap or masking tape also helps.

stuff the void with some insulation too, id stay away from spray foam there, stuffs a mess.

That's moulding. You'll wanna use a miter on it.

Maybe you cut and clamp it like a picture frame?

Thanks for the replies, all. Wood will be the cheapest but not the easiest. Replacement parts would be the easiest ( if I could find them ) but not the cheapest. No rush on just the door, nothings broken, just too shrunken & warped to paint over. : ( I'm also looking into a bigger single window, but haven't found one yet that's narrow enough to fit the door& wide enough & tall enough to cover both holes, with out going to a huge window ( like half the door ). Please keep the ideas coming !

you can order up double pane glass to size, something like a 10"x20" cant cost to much. check ebay, never know. i got a local window factory, (i used to work there too) so i know they can do custom orders.

they are called american jewel windows. hell they might even ship a pane.

Could try looking for composite or pvc moulding. Something for exterior anyway. It can't be expensive.

Those couple screws don't look hard to locate and countersink. The old man has a drill press tho.

Where is Rouge Island? I would say there is a little air infiltration from those warped casings.

    Menards or Home Depot time.

    Home Depot has a 36x80, 6 panel primed steel pre-hung for 149.
