That would not be aluminum....quarters before 1965 were made of mostly silver (90% silver and 10% copper to be exact).* They do make that distinct sound when they hit a desk, and if you look at the sides, they don't have the copper ring on them.* I have about 6 myself that I keep with my "collectables"* ie: wheat pennies, a buffalo nickel, indian head penny from 1901 (yes, it's probably worthless lol) and about $10 worth of bi-centenial quarters.* All of my other change gets put into a small jar for snacks at the machine at work, then if that gets full, it gets dumped into a bigger container for saving.* When that fills up then it gets taken to the bank, run through the coin machine and deposited into savings.* Paid a little for Branson this way.

Then silver they are, I always heard they were aluminum, and was never told different. Thanks for the correction. Not a big coin person myself...just know they are kinda cool to have.

And yup, a solid construction, no 90/10 on these when you look at them from the side no stripe/ring.

Yeah, its silver. I asked as I did as there was reportedly at one time a couple aluminum dimes or it may have been pennies made that were sort of demonstration pieces that were circulated among members of congress and it was reported a few of them were never returned. I could not recall, however if it were pennies or dimes and was not sure if it may have been quarters though I was pretty sure it wasnt them, but I figured if you had one, well lets say you would have retired early.

I normally turn mine in to the bank every year. I get about $100 per year out of it.

I've heard of people up North who, when building new stairs for their house, set the pennies into the concrete. The pennies sticking up keep you from slipping on the ice in the Winter.

I use a similar jar myself, put my change in it. I keep the quarters out and distribute them to all 3 cars for car washes...

I have an old Boy Scout tin that I keep my change in. I got it when I lived in NC, and it was such a neat thing I kept it and found a good use for it. About every 6 months I clean it out and use one of those coin machines you see in your local grocery store. I usually haul in about $50-75 bucks.

I thinkin that big jug that was first posted would be an even better idea, for the simple fact it would be a ***** to sneak money out of it. You'd have to break the thing to get the money out, and with all that glass, it would be messy. A good deterrant if I ever saw one

We have a coffee can (the metal kind) that we put all change into. If we need car wash quarters then we "buy" them out of the can. When the can gets full we take it and turn it into bills. Then place the bills in the bottom of the can and start over. We paid for Branson with the "can" last year (started saving about 3-4 months before the trip). It paid for EVERYTHING (even the tons of raffle tickets I bought ) We started as soon as we got back from Branson sooo.... this year Branson should be a very good trip!

I think I need one of those jugs! I've got a candy dish full so change is in small containers all over the house. I generally wait until I'm tired of seeing them, roll everything up and deposit them into a savings account I set up for my daughter. I never use it otherwise and out of sight is out of mind (or I'd be dipping!)

Me...I just keep on dropping it into my change jar. Its an antique 5 gallon water bottle I got from my last boss when I left. It was his dads he had in his office. Though...it only had about $0.12 in it when I got it, I didn't have much of a free head start. But been adding to it when ever I have some jingle in my pocket, and I'd say it weighs around 50 lbs. currently.

So, what do you do with it?

Farns, I do the same thing except mine is a 5 gallon plastic water jug. Mine is currently now about halfway filled with coins and bills. I raid it every once in a while for quarters, sionce we have to pay for laundry. But the last time I completely emptied the jar was in February 2004, and I rolled at that time over $750.00, and I ran out of time to finish the pennies. I would have to say if I could have finished what I had left, I probably had another $50.00 in pennies. But that money jar took my husband and I to Texas and back. It basically took care of all the expenses there and back. The only thing we didn't use it for was goodies.
