Soo why did they end up stop making the performance shift ?? I know it doesn't make really any difference but it's still cool to have it.

IMO: too much of a hassle. I like the fact that when I mash my gas it is already set to go...instead of having to rememebr to hit a button. just my opinion.....

You can still get to it. Just set up a switch on the dash to ground pin #21 on the PCM, double check that number on ClubGP, and you have the performance shift option once again.

Doesn't performance shift have to be enabled in the PCM and the performance shift settings loaded in the appropriate tables? On my car which doesn't have performance shift, the normal and performance shift tables setting were identical.

If your's doesn't come with performance shift, it's always on. Where i have it, i have to click it to get the pcm to work, thats what it says on the description.

GM probably needed to save $0.1378695 per car so this was the easiest novelty to chop out lol. As mentioned above if there is no switch it is basically in perf shift all the time though the light throttle shift firmness may be a bit softer than if it did have perf shift. Its not a big deal, yeah its nice to hit the button but when you pull off an exit ramp and stab the throttle then have a 5200 rpm WOT shift you get pissed pretty easy! You can add it to your car BUT as of now I think the DHP powertuner is the only tuner that will allow you to enable use of the switch as it is an option in the pcm as mentioned above that needs to be enabled. HPTuners mentioned it may be added but who knows when, I have been waiting a long long time for a few things to get added and I never get clear answers on when because the V6 cars take so long to add features to.

Like Trannyman said I think it was to save a buck, or part of it. When I got my 2001 they said the PCM had been re-calibrated so that under normal driving it would shift one way, under heavy throttle it would essentially enable a more performance-oriented drive. I got a DHP and wired the perf. shift and it was noticeably better than GM's "performance" mode. Also in 2001 they dropped the vanity lights from the doors, again I think just to save a buck across the production run.

Actually stock it just the opposite. Normal is normal but it has the performance settings in both places now. I did the same thing to my son's GTP. No one really wants to drive in normal mode anway.

2001 they also dumped the fancy climate control, infavor of a manual one. I also wired the performance shift in to my 2001, and have been very pleased with it.

yea i was gonna ask that too, why did they loose the nice dual digital climate control. But they probably did that to save more money. I like my '99 :-)
