Ok I have a 3.8 liter 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GT with 130,000 miles on it. I got it with 2200 miles on it. You can see how tired of GM I am just by looking at the work I have done on it so far. The work I have done on it was...
    1) 2 water pumps
    2) Rack and Pion
    3) 2 Wheel Hub Assemblies
    4) 2 Tie Rod ends
    5) Drivebelt tensioner (unbelievable)
    6) Struts front and back
    7) Replaced upper and lower radiator hoses
    8) Replaced Intermiate steering shaft
    9) Front End Alignment done like a month ago after I did the rack and pion

My steering wheel shakes when I get it to 40mph or above and starts to get worst above 40 mph. Other people say change the CV Shafts/ Joints but I would like to get more info on the problem before I put 100 dollars into it and find out its not the cv joints. I got my tires balanced today, all four of them. Rims are not bent. Any feedback would really help. I thank you all in advance for your time.

Did they do an alignment after they did the balance?

    Have you rotated the tires?

Alignment was done like a month or two ago. The steering wheel just started shaking a week ago and today I got them balanced. I rotated all the tires in every combination and it still shakes.

Abs, tire pressure light and trac light is on and it sounds like the right strut is making a knocking sound when turning the wheel when I am stopped.

Turns out the abs light was a hub assembly, as for the strut knocking.... don't know but it could be something rubbing or a bad strut. I will see later. I replaced the hub assembly like a year ago on both sides. So I will replace it myself with a quality part. Gotta find a trusty mechanic to put good parts on there. I guess that explains why my steering wheel shakes.

Are cars are prone to wheel hubs going bad.

I guess its matters how cheap of a part you put on. I put on a raybestos that was around $70. I saw a hub asssembly for $40 but i avoided it.

all aftermarket hubs are hardly good for more than 20k miles IMO.

Some say the timkens will go for 60-80k.. I dont believe it.

I get junkyard OEM hubs from low mile cars/crossovers.
