All those type later-year upgrades don't apply to Pontiac. The last Pontiac V8 was cast in 79, so it never went roller or EFI. GM's engines well into the smog era were brand-specific castings, as each engine was designed by its own division. The equivalent of Merc and Linc having their own completely different engine designs with little or no parts that cross between brands. For example, an HEI distributor for a Buick fits that brand only. Olds and Pontiac use the same, but none fit a Chevy.

So you have things in different places, like our 3800 front dress... Buick is the only division who put the oil pump in the timing cover. Pontiac fuel pumps mount on the timing cover, Chevy is on the block. B-O-P-Cad engines have one trans flange pattern, Chevy has another. And thats why the EFI and roller conversions are all aftermarket for Pontiac. Theres no JY choices. Lots of guys think a 350 is a 350 but they are'nt all Chevys. Buick, Olds, and Pontiac all made their own just as they did with 455s. It does get confusing now for people under a certain age, makes it hard to imagine it being so expensive but its true. I'll never probably be rich enough to build a Pontiac V8 and thats why I baby mine.

What would make it turn more heads? I like the engine. It does look best doing burnouts lol

Having trouble deciding which car to put that bumper on... today's battle is getting airbags functional in the GTP though. Raining, yawn.

OK this is more like it. I put the loved-on bumper on the GTP with the good absorber and good emblem then touched up and rubbed some more. Vacuumed it, now I don't know how to act because its whole again. Rough around the edges maybe, but aside from gas gauge and bent oil pan I'm home free. Unless I want to chase the alignment some more. Anyway, I kinda want to put the original seats back in and start over. Taking a deep breath, and resuming the wash and ignore routine. Bumper came out OK. Its more wrinkly right over the tag, but the other was ripped there and on one corner. No lamp bounce now but one sits crooked still. Time to quit whoring bumper repairs.

Of course now theres the GT, which got de-badged a little. Used to have 3800V6 emblems on the bumper ends, now she don't. Still has door emblems and big hood dent but no perforated bumper cover now, just cracked. Installed the GTP's old one and its an improvement. Also installed the JY trio of thingamabobs at front of dash in it. Baby steps. Still gotta mow, lol

Came out real nice IDJ! You're making me strongly consider painting my hood. It is riddled with crow's feet and chips. Mirrors are second worst. If I was to spray with proper base/clear, do you have any suggestions? I heard you say I think that any black will work. Is there a clear that would work well but not break the bank? Hood and mirrors, what...1/2 qt each?

    Thanks guys.

There were moments of aw dammit when I thought I'd have to do real paint work, but I was duly impressed by DC's rattle clear. Its soft and would wipe right off with thinner, but I was able to fake it pretty good with that stuff.

Don't want to give anybody the wrong idea, the DC universal black is a little brown comparatively. But if you fade out the edge and bury it in clear, its tough to pick up on in natural light. With the nasty buffer I can blend texture and hide transitions where the eye isn't looking. Bodyshop voodoo, but nothing ten guys within ten miles couldn't do!

Bandook, start by telling me what brand your walk-in outlet sells and we can go from there. I really only have experience with the big brands. They all offer multiple quality levels now and when I need something for a home or side job, I start from scratch because paint always changes. Summit ships some interesting 2K paint packages. Not sure but is your car WA-8555 black? I'd mosey in the local auto paint slinger's store and ask away. I'd prefer mixed paint for a butt-match like a hood. And it sounds like you need to go down to metal so consider the additional onslaught of products needed for that.

    Booba...

I'm gonna ponder on mods I'd like. Thanks for askin. Hmm, I'll ask Grape what she'd like to see on the young one. As we slay bugs to Slayer.

These ones that dance in my head might get a laugh:

Long tube headers and full length dual exhaust with a 3" cat for an X.

Hot rod plumbing under the hood. Paint stuff for dark, clean utilitarian look

    Heat extractors & drip tray

    Challenger-esque custom headlights.

Bullitts and drilled F-bodys (Betty would get TS/altimax) with fatter taller tires in back (willing to guinea pig the look. must photoedit)

    Dorman rear bar

Much darker, satin lower bumper color

Tint- 35 sides, 20 ceramic rear

    Replace speakers, add amp

    KYBs

    rails

chop goofy stands off 40th spoiler and add end pcs on qtrs or pedestals under stock tail

black edges of tail lamps, clear all.

fab aux console @ pass seat mt

    Fold down rear seat

    Shifter thats less homo

relocate seat heat, trac, n perf shift buttons

boost gauge, ditch EGR, standalone PCM, smaller pulley, good radiator

    I'll stop....

You could totally do mirrors like I did with my bumper just now, same paint. Hood, no. Too big of course.

Why the Dorman rear bar? It's only 14mm.

Ha! Because it already has a Dorman front I bought local. And I totally spaced saying GT converter, shift kit, 3.29s, mebbe port work blah blah

Can you tell I have NOT read the Addco thread? lol. Haven't, should. I still gotta spit out the dash write-up.

The GT could get the clunker bar... see how that works? It flows downhill when theres 2. 95% of my best stuff is on the GTP now. But I've been spending that percentage of my time and bux on it lately so I've reached a stopping point. If I can swing the dwindling momentum towards the other two, I'll fell better about being ready for winter.

    Wait....

You guys can do better than just picking out the sway bar. Come ON! Is that the only goof item? If so, I've learned a little at GPF.

I like the mod list. You could do 06+ Impala brakes instead of F-body's but it's whatever is available really.

Exactly... it had thin brakes when I junked out the 02 so guess whats on it now. Wheels first on that though, right?

Today I vowed to myself not to wrench on anything. Rained pretty hard last night, slept good. Chow run in the GT this AM and man lots of busted tree limbs in the roads, ditch crap too. My friends live on dirt roads. I may have shot myself in the foot, I'm scared to go beat on the GTP now! Better get over that. lol. Good ole Grape don't care about sticks and mud but I care about making a mess of her. A month from now theres a show that I parked in not entered last year, and I'm having thoughts of doing that again. Despite the sunburn I had a great time. Two of my recent builds were nearby, and a couple friends urged me to park mine next to theirs. The guy I got the GP from even showed up (he has 2 hot Pontiacs I painted, but doesn't show them) and I hadn't seen that guy in forever. The GP body looks a lot worse than it did a year ago though, maybe I should just show the GTP ha ha.

Scratch off one UPGRADE... rails. I passed the couch this morning and they were jut laying there, staring up at me. Lovingly, longingly.... so I used the leftover DC and well thats not wrenching. They came out decent but don't have much clear on em. I had 2K urethane primer on em for months, just scuffed em up and rattle canned them. Luckily the old tape came off semi-easy and I had enough of the right stuff to put these on:
