Just kidding, looks good man!
Thanks gents. Many little issues remain but my insurance value is restored.
Ha! Kid faces say it best. At least I don't feel bad about not using them now. I like the new look but oh man them tires... they are just right and I enjoy em every mile. Grip, quiet, ride, rain are all remarkable to me.
Looks like another fine weekend to spend fixing the junks...
During the week, the GT got a small amount of action. Swapped in a slightly beefier used battery from the GTP, more fender splash shield repairs, and took a turn out of the RF tie rod. It seems to drive fairly normal but that RF wheel bearing may be noisy. Tight, though. No ABS troubles. As always, I enjoy the lower gears and sloppier converter in a GT. Makes me grin when I romp the gas, and reminds of how little difference the SC makes. Anyway, yeah I picked up DP gaskets for it since I swapped with no new ones hurriedly. Because exhaust leak makes no grin. Need to pick up a coolant level sensor for the GT too. And yeah I am contemplating swapping the 02 rack into it, among other things.
Hit the JY yesterday after work but it was a bust. The fender I was after had been damaged since I last saw it. A pity. There was a Northstar up for grabs though. Had just et a bellyfull of BBQ when I went, so I didn't spend long. Still keeping my eyes peeled for extending sunvisors in graphite. Still no rails to be found but there was one nice OE style aftermarket tail lamp there. However the hassle to get in the trunk wasn't worth it so its still there.
The GTP... I picked up another bottle of SC oil because 2 quite didn't top mine off when I changed it. Forecast calls for WP, new coupler or 02 S/C swap, and LIM jobs on that one, but I have stuff for a TB clean today. Speaking of nabbing 02 parts, oil pan. Keep forgetting the 99 is bent. I'm inclined to replace injector O-rings now but might wait until LIM time. Sure is a lot of debris built up around the injector holes, but man the O-rings you get seem like a ridiculously awful fit. Haven't had them out of a GTP, saying that because my exp with the GT when I broke an injector tip a little.
If I go to the parts store today I'll pick up some more rattle clear and move towards the tail lamp painting I have in mind. Also more attachment tape, because I think I've decided I want the extractors and tray from the 40th on my 99. Without modifying them. Just cut hood, fix tray, paint, install sans emblems. Having that done would push me towards using that 40th lid n spoiler. I think for that look to work I need all the elements in place. Plus tint. Venting underhood heat makes enough sense to me to go to the trouble.
The 69GP- Due for oil change and I have the stuff. Could use a new power steering belt while I'm in, and for that matter a trans service is way overdue. And here I sit, typing. Five days of talkin bout it ain't worth five minutes of doing it. Off I go-
Trunk is a rock, flat blade and dipstick three minutes to open. :th_king-normal:
Don't worry about that little wafer on the bottom of the injectors. That's literally only there to keep the o-ring on the injector when you lift it up. The ring is too big to fall into the head. If you don't have the wafers...the ring just sits there waiting for you.
Rocks and sticks, now yer speakin me language, Bill! :th_jester: I went in for a fend with a stubby 10 wrench and lineman pliers, no tar arn. My heart just wasn't in it. The BBQ was working though if you know what I mean. I really did want to explore the truck section but didn't want to do it while prairie-doggin.
I know about the plastic thingy now thx2gpf. What I don't know is how to stop this junk fixin train. Its the weather and all GPs and me not wanting to work on anything in winter.
It's really easy to stop the fix train.
1. Stop posting and start working. If you do LIM's, TB cleaning, Trans service, check axles and bearings. Nearly any 3800 car would be ready to to through winter.
2. Stop getting in accidents. Seriously.. if you didn't have to replace body parts, you would work on the rest of the stuff.
OK everybody heard that... Bill said stop posting! I was sittin here payin bills and jammin to Sabbath before doing fun fixes. My priority alignment is undisturbed and theres no hurry on days off here. That herd of wild drivers I gotta deal with... thats who you need to be preachin at and please do. I have zero control of who hits me and when. Its real easy for people to think I'm irresponsible with stuff like "Matt has too many wrecks" floating around, when nothing could be further from the truth.
First sensor screw I touched snapped off. GTP is dead in the water now.
Dremel tool again, hate / love that thing. Got a screw in it, tight. Gonna clean the TB with it all together instead, carefully. The plenum is whats caked up. Pretty bad, it looks like a SBC EGR port. Theres crust on the TB and the old gasket sure is tough. I reeeeallllyyy didn't have squat here to drill with so already its been an adventure. Doing this ought to help the engine out a little though, we'll see. That broken screw had thread locker on it. Next time I'll know to at least heat the TB first.
Runs, win. On to the next thing, or no-thing. Shop vac was needed on the intake side, what a mess. That battery I put in the GT last night was dead today so I'll be doing the un-swap there. About to run an errand in the GTP and see if any issues pop up from the TB cleaning...
Nice man, very nice collection!
I wish I was born about 15 years earlier, or heck even bought some of the fbodies that were for sale when I was in high school, they were selling for $2k with a decent engine/trans in a 67/68 now you can't touch one for under $10k.
That 69 looks amazing, I do have a question for paint, have you ever tried the pre-mixed clear coat that you can get at the parts store from duplicolor? I m getting ready to spot repair a few spots and paint the new trim panel and have mixed my own clear typically, but I am only doing some small spots.
Also that is some luck you got with the babies, sad to see them "total" numbers.
Thanks! Wish I still had all of them but mostly the A-bodies... Chevelles and the Buick. When I was in HS, those were 8-900 bux like GPs are now. Third Gens had just came out and all the rich blonde chix had em. Whackass posers were sportin mullets and driving smog f bodies while the cool dudes had rusty big block stick cars. But even in 95, I found a damn good running 69 Camaro for 2,500. Its all about timing, and I told my Dad the same thing about wishing I came along earlier. But as it turns out, the crap car era only lasted from 80-95 and it did have an end. At least theres power in the showrooms again and plenty of it.
The Duplicolor rattle can clear is what I've been using in the more recent spot paint repair posts, and it blends in fast with buffing but being a lacquer clear, only so much durability can be expected. It isn't as easy to maintain as real paint but is easy to work with in small areas. Are you using a spray gun with ready-to-spray DC clear? For clarity no pun intended, maybe post up what specific product you're actually considering.
GTP drove great awhile ago. Sat for about an hour after coolant bleed then started it. Ran for a few, stumbled, and stalled in park. No restart. Hmm. Floored it and cranked, nope. Took the intake hose loose, held the throttle open then blew into the TB a little and left the hose off a few minutes. It cleared up and returned to normal. I let quite a bit of sovent go down the EGR tube, figured she found it and said gulp but didn't like it. Heck that might have cleaned up the EGR valve a little, lol. I'll stomp test it later, right now its big inch NA weather for me and Grape. Theres bugs that need killin out on the two lane blacktop that the mainstream forgot.
Betty the GT begins to look proper now (wheels are fair game though), I gave her some general appearance attention today:

I was going to use the clear in the can, the paint shop stuff, its a quart of premixed clear coat, I don't plan to give the gtp a super nice paint job, just make it look better than now, well just a little bit.
Yeah a buddy in 99 bought 67 numbers matching SS Camaro with the original 396 and M21, with 60k original miles on it, it was gorgeous, he paid $9k for it then, he sold it a year later for the same price and now you can't touch the car for less than $40k.
Judging by what they put in the aerosols, I'd say you'll be real happy doing spot repairs with that (BSP300, right?). I was pleased with gloss after buffing, and also with how it melted in at soft clear edges. Real fast and easy to use but its only lacquer.
Well I have two paint guns, one I use for paint and one I had used for clear before, I have used rattle can before to paint the "Berger" panel on my old fbody.
Maybe I'll try the stuff in the quart and let ya know how it is.

Please do, it can't cost a whole bunch.
FWIW, I did see some of that in use at the shop but the flat version. Unfortunately, I can't say anything good about what happened. I had to sand it off quickly at boss's request. Didn't spray it myself, but I'd say just go real light on your first two or three coats because theres a lot of solvent in that stuff. If you put it over a spot of lacquer primer or thin-sanded urethane... it can reach right through your color and lift the featheredges. Then you're starting over but luckily that just means wipe it off with thinner since lacquer.
Berger panel... (scratches chin) ?
Heres a pic with a story behind it. Porosity on the thrust side of a .060 over Pontiac 400 after 75K miles becomes an issue, even with the 73-4 block. I started tankin coolant 3 states away on Power Tour 06. This got me home and 3 holes on that side were leaking, I think this was the rear on the right bank. Thats what you call miled out, unless you wanna sleeve em all and still have a POS. people love carnage pics.

The Berger panel is panel in the rear just below the hatch that has CAMARO lettering in it on the 4th gen fbodies.
I stripped mine and roughed up the letters inside and filled with a couple rounds of bondo, smoothed it out, the painted gloss black with rattle cans, then finished with a wet sand of 1000 grit, then 2000 grit.
