Well, good thing Dave builds awesome transmissions at TEP, lol.
Depends on the issues. Clutches can wear and cause slip. A tps or maf could cause trans slip. There's so many cases. On the ones I recognize as not being fixed by fluid/filter then yes.. sometime I know enough and suggest a rebuild/replacement.
FWIW, I have found used transmissions with 100K for $100 that worked great.
Same. My buddy picked up a Regal trans for $200...guy said it had 94k~ "or so". He's got 149k on the car and it's still going strong. We put that trans in like 30k ago.
I found a JASPER Remanufactured unit with less than 30k miles on it for $400.

Bill has a how to. It is actually not that bad. Bill managed to do mine with the wheels on the car (because 7 sided lug nuts) in about half a day.
Don't attempt this on your own. You will need a 2nd set of hands even IF you knew what you were doing
