Okay, so I am headed into work today running and had a mid 90's Mustang GT (could have been a v6 dunno) on my ass all the way out of the neighborhood and jumped around me through the neighborhood. When we got to the freeway he was in front and I ended up following him and just ran it up all the way up the 2 lane on ramp he was trying to pull away and I passed him doing about 90 when I had it floored I got the E 0 on my wideband (I changed it back to gas since everyone acts like I'm speaking Greek) and as I had it floored it finally started to come up out of the 9's to 11.2 and stayed there. I was cruising about 90 and had another newer mustang started to flyby so I got on it again and it again goes off scale and eases back up to low 11's and I am flying and get up to about 110 or so and let off as traffic is coming up the car ran hard and was doing great I just seem to have this bog when I first take off and not really sure what to change. I am already running a little lean for E85 since I am only at 32.5% instead of 34% more fuel where I should be.

Well not much going on lately. I added a 5 button DIC and picked up the compass module out of the same car and the DIC works fine everything is OK with the exception that I got an 07' DIC instead of an 40-06, so when I get in the car it says to check the tire monitoring system, being as how there are no TPMS sensors in the rims. I am not even sure if the receiver is located within the DIC or another module. Anyway I'll just end up picking up an 06 later, and check tire pressure like a caveman as we did in olden times.
The odd thing is that even tough the 3 button DIC does not display Ambient temp my HUD was always messed up and displayed between 129-176*. Now that I have installed the 5 button it works perfectly. I went to buy the compass module and went to install it last night and there's no damn plug for it. I followed the wiring all the way back to where it goes behind the seat and all across the back and it's nowhere to be found. When I remove the rear deck to install a set of separates (5 1/4" and 1" tweeter, I'll look better but I am not thinking my car came with the harness.
I started to play with the low end of my tune as I noticed that I was getting small amounts of KR right at 2,500 rpm which is where I have them set to turn back on because of the weird MAX KR issue I had been having. I dropped the knock sensor turn on back to see where I was getting this KR under load. Well the thing went bat**** crazy and started giving me 15* of KR at 18% throttle while pulling 18" Hg at 1200 rpm's, 13.8-15.0 AFR's. I drove it like this for a couple of days and, it came and went. I would get on the freeway and hold a constant 4* KR at 70 and then I would floor it and it would go away. Just really odd. So anyway I wasn't able to get good scans so I ended up pulling over when leaving the JY and setting the Knock sensors to come on at 2200 rpm and it's all good again. So we can put the higher octane may help this issue to rest and it's some other phantom issue.
E85 still going well I've been running this way since May and it eats fuel like a tank but seems to like it. High 12's and low 13's are the norm now.
Jeff
So if you have a solid 93 tune - what's the e85 going to do? Just curious because I'm debating wether or not to fill up with e85 now
Bob,
I have always had this issue since I got the car with the stock tune. It was very sporadic and sometimes it was weeks in-between events. My tune was pretty good on 93 before I switched and really the only thing I did was offset the IFR by 34%. The reason I changed over to E85 was curiosity and getting ready for adding modifications. Since it is so hot here I wanted to try it to see if some of the KR I was getting on low RPM high load situations (1-2*) would go away. It did and I had been told "Try some higher Octane and see if it goes away" (The MAX KR stuff), well it didn't. The other thing I wanted to see was how much mpg I would lose plus what the cost per mile would be. The cost per mile is the same, so it's a wash. During WOT runs I don't get any KR and timing is 18-19*. The car feels good and it doesn't matter if the car is heatsoaked or not it always seems to have the same power. When the car was hot on gas it always seemed sluggish. Last "winter" the car felt amazing and that's how it feels now even in 95*+ heat.
Jeff
That's some solid feedback.... Im on a 2.8 and no kr but i bought 60s for e85.... I tuned them for 93 and they are barely being worked.
I also have a fuel pump from intense waiting to go in but haven't had a reason to yet.
Maybe I'll try some e85 tuning when this tank empties out
One of the things I noticed before the change that had me worried was that I was only running about 2.0ms pulse width and with a latency of around 1.0 ms I was really wondering how my 60# injectors would idle on a stock cammed engine since they are 55% larger than stock so I was afraid I would have issues there at idle. I have been weighing my options with a fuel pump rewire since it's a constant pressure system the load doesn't really change with engine load so other than running out of volume I don't really see a need. If anything the load at idle would be slightly smaller than it would at WOT. I am working on a datalog for current for the fuel pump, should have something within the week.
Jeff
Apparently Photobucket is acting up tonight.
Never got around to logging fuel pump current, but I've been pretty busy. I did decide to install some 60# injectors and drop to a 3.4" pulley.
Ain't got time for waiting for a puller to be rented shipping and all so I made my own with an old 3 jaw puller and some material I had around the shop.

Man I miss the days of keyed pulleys.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y5/J57ltr/IMG_8250.jpg
But if it works, it works.
The pulley hub went on much easier with nothing more than a Harbor Freight power steering pulley removed/installed.

Made sure everything was still dialed in and didn't have any issues. All I did was start with my stock IFR table and then change it by the difference between the stock 33's and the new 60's then added 34%. The car started and ran very well no issues. I ran around and did a few pulls and fueling was good. I did have to add some fuel past the areas in the MAF that I had never been to before. I'm now hitting 11,300Hz and maxing the MAP at 200 kPa. So I'm hitting a little over 14 psi.
So a few weeks ago I tried to get a group of friends together to run at our local 1/8 mile track. I Was only able to get my friend with a 2015 Charger R/T with a K&N intake and a Flowmaster cat back exhaust system on it. Our first run he redlighted and I took off and forgot everything I knew about drag racing for time and just blew the tires off and never let out until I crossed the finish line. Ran a blistering 10.6. After that I settled down, but got flagged at the end of my second run and was told I was leaking brake fluid, so back through Tech and turns out it wasn't me. I got back in line and went up against a Subaru WRX, it was a little older model had the scoop and was a turbo car. I actually beat him off the line and to about half track then he walked right past me. My wife started texting saying my buddies son was getting fussy so we were going to leave but needed one last run. So for the last run of the night I lined up against my friend and I don't know what happened but I think he fell asleep and I was doing pretty well. The car pulled hard and I ran my best time of the night a 9.55@77mph which was quicker and faster than his best run. This was both of our first times at the track, my first time ever with a FWD car and his first time ever. I didn't adjust tire pressure, had about a half tank of fuel and everything that's normally in my car, tools and all.

So the next week I leave to go out of town and coming back from the airport this happens.
This is what happens when you don't pay attention and screw up:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y5/J57ltr/IMG_8454.jpg
So I am in traffic and I dropped my wallet and reached for it when traffic started moving and it stopped and I kept going and ran into the receiver of a full size truck and it popped me right in the core support. Smashed the latch assembly flat against it and bent the core support back and down about 5" Everyone was OK and we waited about 2 hours for a cop to show up. Several tow trucks came and went. I removed the hood wile we were waiting and had it off and moved the loom for the PCM and a few other things away from the manifolds. The fans were pretty close but the car was running and no leaks so I figured I would just drive it home. Well the cops show up and decide that my car is undrivable because it doesn't have a hood, even though it is not required in Texas. Kinda like you don't have to have a windshield but you do have to have wipers. Well I am not going to argue the point I just asked if they would check. They said I wouldn't be able to drive it and so I told the tow truck driver that I was going to have it taken to my house, which is 27 miles away. He didn't really want to drive out that far so when we got off the road and into a gas station parking lot he said he would drop me in an area around the freeway and I would "have a friend with a trailer pick me up". So he drops me in a grocery store parking lot that just has a construction size trash container in it. The security guard sees me and tells me to wait 30 minutes and throw it in the back side of the dumpster. I so that and it's starting to get close to dark as its about 4:15 so I take off and drive while watching temps and such everything is staying cool, no funny smells or anything. I can see the heat rise from the engine compartment as it's a bone chilling 48* out, so that was kinda neat. I get the car to the house right at dark with the driving lights and parking lights on. I start taking inventory of what I am going to need and it's a pretty decent list. Core support straightened about 4-5" back and up. Need new headlight, bumper cover, header panel, latch assembly, Radiator and condenser.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y5/J57ltr/IMG_8507.png
I drive it 20 miles to the shop and start to try start bending the core support back into place and apparently its freaking thick, I picked up the whole car and didn't move the support at all.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y5/J57ltr/IMG_8506.png
ouch. that sucks.
Damn dude. That sucks At least you had a chance to enjoy your work before it happened.
and wow that support IS strong. Can you spot weld? You find core supports online for around $150 shipped. I replaced mine and just needed to drill and spot weld
edit. If the regal is the same part # I'll send you the link where I got mine from unless you're gonna get a used one.
So this all happened on the 15th and so I had to go to work on Friday the 16th so I take my wife's car. I find on Facebook a guy local to me that had an 08 that he was parting out so my friend Chuck and I go to his place and they are supposed to already start pulling the parts. No one but a couple of was there but one of the yard guys so we proceed to pull the passenger side fender, bumper cover, hood, header panel and latch assembly and the other hinge (they are spot welded to the fender btw). I had ordered a new condenser, 1" radiator and bought a set of TYC headlights from the local supplier. I worked Monday and Tuesday of the next week and took off Wednesday and Thursday and start disassembling the car. Chuck is a former body man and we start talking about the core support and what can be done. He says it's probably going to need to go on a frame machine and I said I didn't want to do that if I can avoid it. So we sit down and think about it and he says it needs to be rotated up so we talk about making a tool and I said I would take care of that. We get the hood and hinges on and call it a night.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y5/J57ltr/IMG_8505.jpg
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y5/J57ltr/IMG_8531.jpg
So I set about making a tool out of some of the supplies in the shop.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y5/J57ltr/IMG_8511.jpg
Piece of 1"X1.5" SST stock we had laying around and a couple of pieces of 6"X7"X3/8" a few holes drilled and some 1/2-13X5" Grade 8 bolts and some nuts and done.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y5/J57ltr/IMG_8512.jpg
Then it's time to use the forklift again and see if it works.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y5/J57ltr/IMG_8513.jpg
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y5/J57ltr/IMG_8514.jpg
It lines up pretty well so far and is about the same distance I have seen before. It's not perfect, but it will do until I cut out another core support and do it the right way.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y5/J57ltr/IMG_8516.jpg
So I start putting the car back together with Chuck's help and get it pretty close. I ended up using our stud welder and getting the extra 1" I need to get it to line up with the bumper cover with the rest of the car. I ended up throwing some weld around the studs as the CD stud welder isn't the best thing on material that isn't perfectly flat.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y5/J57ltr/IMG_8553.jpg
Install the lights and get the condenser and radiator back into place even though they are bent to crap they still work. We put a new fender on since I have had a dent in the old one since I got the car.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y5/J57ltr/IMG_8558.jpg
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y5/J57ltr/IMG_8564.jpg
Finish up all the loose ends on Thursday night about 9pm and pretty much finished
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y5/J57ltr/IMG_8564.jpg
Now I am back to driving the car again and it's doing fine. Just need to install the condenser and new radiator this weekend and get that pin stripe removed when I go over to Chucks to give him a hand with some work he needs and be almost as good as new. I actually have a OEM bumper cover now where it was a flaking aftermarket one before.
Jeff
still got your race # on the windshield lol you found some nice clean parts for sure too.
Yeah it was Race on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday busy, Monday left for Sioux Falls, SD until Thursday then wreck on the way home. Friday work, Saturday parts and a little messing with it. Sunday I messed with it again. Then Monday-Tuesday work and Wednesday, Thursday worked on the car at work. Then Friday morning did a little welding and had my daughter with me so I was teaching her to weld and then to Bath and Body works for final Christmas presents then the car sat until Monday when I drove it home and ran it through a car wash. Still need to go over it again but it's been a busy few weeks for sure.
Jeff
That was a quick turn around for sure, good job
Thanks Shea, it was pretty much my only option I didn't think I would even be able to fix it after we tried moving that core support and the entire car came off the ground. But a good night's sleep and everything pulled out fairly well. I ran into some good luck too the guy that I got my parts off of wanted to trade a tune for the body parts so we are working on getting that set up. So far I have a total of $614 tied up in the repair including the tow and the $200 I gave the guy for the parts. I also didn't get a ticket either so that was nice. I should have gotten one for sure but attitude goes a long way when talking to the cops.
Jeff
^^^^^ Damn fine job !! I don't consider myself ANY kind of a bodyman, but observing your work might get me to try a few things if I need to. Props, Man..Respect. Thank You...E
Thanks, I am no body man by any stretch of the imagination, that's why I got my friend Chuck to help me line everything up. I would have lost my mind trying to adjust this and that by myself. I was helper at that point. I just figured while I had it apart would go ahead and ix that dent in the passenger side too..... At Chuck's request. It was a lot of work, but I didn't have a lot of options at that point it was either get in there and get it done or let it languish and become an unfinished wreck and part it out. Luckily my Step father in law offered me the use of his car while I finished it. Everything kind of aligned (no pun intended) to get this project finished on time and without spending a mint. I also have to thank my boss for letting me use the facilities and keep the car parked inside for a week while I worked it out. I did run into a bunch of little issues, but nothing I couldn't fix. I had the band saw blade snap when I turned it on and found out that nobody has been replacing the guide bearings and 5 of them are bad. I had to fill the forklift tank because apparently no one is able to read a gauge on the propane tank. one of the TIG machines well the one I like to use was out of Argon luckily I had a spare. But that's all little stuff, frustrating but no big deal really.
