Why doesn't it write to a '98 GS? You probably weren't using the latest database update, now if you were trying to read a '99 Bonneville ssei, then I could see it not working. I pulled my '98 Regal .bin and used that to tune it without a problem, so it definitely works on that year/model.

Actually it would read it but then I couldn't edit it. When I read it dhp first warned that it wasn't supported bla bla bla, did a full read and saved it. Then it wouldn't open it to edit. Forget the error. Figured it would be best to just tune my pcm so I don't have to worry about security issues etc. I'm honestly a bit over my head at this point lol. That's why I'm hoping someone will write a base tune for me.

Edit: I installed the db update so I dunno.

That's odd, maybe it's an older OSID then that isn't unlocked, did you check bills dropbox for a .bin?

You mean for a top swap bin? Yeah, there's nothing for impalas. There is the 04 SS, but I'm not sure how well that would translate over to mine. I think they are drive by wire?

Now that you mention it, there is a top swap bin in the "misc" folder. I'll have to look at that when I get home.

If you can pull your own '01 Impala .bin, I'd do that and work from there, there's not a whole lot you'll have to do to get a basic set up. You won't even have to mess with any trans settings, just timing and fueling. I haven't tried opening any impala .bins yet, starts getting hairy when you deviate from gp's/regals i've noticed, lol.

    What the frick is this!
    Dexcool is gross
    Rear head.

The exhaust where it connects to cat back is solidly frozen together. Need to pick up a metal blade for the sawzall. I finally, FINALLY picked up a new set of extensions.

Aren't they beautiful About the last dozen projects I keep telling myself to get a new set. Been using a cheap China set for years, and they have no lock. Half my time is spent chasing sockets that fall off. Seriously have no clue what took me so long to get these but that "click" as the socket locks in place is sweet music to my ears. No more taped on sockets here.

Yeah, the front one was worse. Totally plugged.

We got shorty! Going to son's bball game in a little, then I can clean and swap parts to reassembles my heads. And I've caught sight of the elusive high mileage cross hatch.

Hard to see in picture but its there. Pistons don't look bad, thought there would be a lot more buildup.

Only thing that sucked was the amount of coolant still in the block. Just a little ended up on the pistons but I wasn't happy. I never seen anyone mention draining the block. Is there a plug somewhere?

Knock sensors, but it's not worth messing with them, they are pretty touchy.

The bolts where the supercharger idler pulley tower go will also drain coolant from the block, the 3 10mm ones on the lower right where the ac compressor bracket bolts on.

Ah yes! Lol. Forgot all about that. They drained when I pulled it from the yard. Was thinking about pulling the water pump bolts. Even though the heads are off now I'd still like to drain a little more so I don't get the new head gaskets wet. Thanks!

Not sure if I'll do much more tonight. Baseball game heat was brutal. But my boy's team won! He played catcher tonight, that was my position through all little league...so many good memories came back today. This is our first season.

    Thanks!

So...I'm debating. I knew I wanted to do new brake lines, sooner better than later.

Seen better days. Never replaced hard lines like this before. Looks like a pain in the arse. But seems lije it would be easier now then after the install. Anyone done it that can give me an idea of how difficult it is?

I'd pull the front knock sensor and if nothing comes out get a small screw driver and clean out the hole. My 180k L36 I'm doing the top swap on had the front and rear plugged up.

Just my opinion. I have the motor on a stand though. A tad easier to work with.

Are you in Columbus? I heard you visited Intense earlier in the thread. Where did you take the heads to?

I ended up just vacuuming a little out of the rear port. A lot more drained when I pulled the bolts where the standoff goes. I'm a bit nervous about messing with the knock sensors. Hear they are touchy.

Yeah, intense didn't work out. He seems to have more important things to do than help out locals. And he never missed an opportunity to bash zzp, even though zzp has been great to deal with for me. And...he told me my Aeromotive Stealth 340 was just a rebadged Walbro 255. Even though there are a bunch of flow tests that show otherwise. Basically, if he doesn't sell it or install it, its junk. Nice guy otherwise...

Columbus Col Weld did my heads. They are great bunch of guys. Jim answered all my noob questions and even gave me a walk around of the Serdi. I'll be using them in the future. Actually had the heads at 2 other shops. Just wasn't happy with the results and I'm not putting my first set of heads on when I don't feel 100%. Spent more on them than I care to admit, but I think it will be worth it.

Where at in Columbus are you? I'm in Gahanna.

How much did Col Weld they charge you to work on them? I'm debating on having mine done or just throw them on the car.

I actually lucked out and got a full head gasket kit (LIM, head gaskets, bolts, stem seals, everything) for $85 from Amazon lol.

Pick town. They charged 75 a head for valve job. And 50 to have two new seats pressed in. Came to 215 with tax. If yours look good then run them. I'm building for 100k+ so I wanted to know they were going on as good as possible. I had the guides trimmed at another shop because I'd like to run some crazy cam and rockers but not till next year when I get a better tranny. This way I won't have to pull them again. I started with junk though. Some heads are a lot nicer. The ones I just pulled off the 133k l36 I'm building look like they just had a valve job.

Nice score on the gaskets. I paid 140 for the full set, and I thought THAT was a good deal.
