    well so far the 80e has only had slipping clutch failures...it is still my firm believe that a shift kit'd 80e (accum spacers), with a sonnax'd vb/pump would live a long and happy life behind the vast majority of the 400-500whp builds.

    team moose knuckle have helped prove out the 80e in the rear of their lead sled...and he's only lost 4th gear after more than a few hooning sessions (in line with the failures experienced on the whippleRiv)
    its fixed with another 150-250$ 80e from the JY.

    the turbo setup on the TR is tight enough as is, an 80e would require reworking alot of **** lol

    Have you ever looked into coil near plug conversion? lookupthe grand national guys do it will with a lot of success. RJC racing was the company.

    the grand national system has to be modified to work with our 3x and 18x reference signals however it's also really expensive.... the ICM stacking mod can be less than 100 bucks

    On the 65's and likely the 80's as well, it requires special reamers and tools to install.

    still looking into a buildable coating for the 2.93 sprockets...armoloy is a rather expensive possibility

    got a good dimensional grasp of it and made a fine tuned mockup out of some scrap stainless...awww look at that cute little needle bearing...poor guy




    looks like i can do it fairly simply with welded chromoly plates


    ill have to cut down the OD, but im going to modify the OEM side cover bolts for the stator support, grab some more meat, though there's enough room there for some sort of washer type ring to spread the load out to the casting a hair better.



    its probably not worth it as the support should fix most of the issues but it does look like an area for improvement since there's room and the oem bolts are an off the shelf size, undoubtedly for cost reasons


    and for comparison here is the 80e
    yep, larger 6 bolt stator support with a 4" dia ball bearing for each gear. and why yes the channel plate bolts to the center of the case...at multiple points no less...
    oh dear me is that a roller bearing also supporting the end of the input shaft? why yes my dear it is....
    the old girl might weight 65 lbs more...but all that fat is in all the right places, giggity

    id let her touch my stub shaft anytime....

    dude, this **** takes time lol
    i still gotta drop off the 1/4" chromoly plate to get ground down for jetting out the stator support plates. plus ive got a design for a chain slider for the slack side.
    the new puzzle design looks good but ive got at least one or two more trial fitments before i get it perfect, the setscrews and plate are designed to clamp the mid support and im trying to make their design part of the puzzle pieces so i can tap them prior to welding.

    what gearset ratio ya got? im designing for the smaller 3.29 sprocket and figure on just grinding the support beams a hair for our larger 2.93 drive sprocket
