Hey guys, relatively new user here. Name's Gabe.

I've been looking for a GTP for about 3 months. Up here in Maine there aren't too many of them around, especially with the body in decent shape. After a few leads didn't pan out, I finally got my car today. It's a 2002 GTP in black. 130,000 miles. Picked it up for 2600. I had to go all the way to Mass to pick her up. After driving the car 200+ miles home, I'm pretty impressed. Pretty much everything I was hoping it to be and the body seems to be in very good shape.

    Here's a picture:

No closeup because shes fairly dirty after driving her home in some snowy conditions...will post more pics soon when weather is nicer. For now she's stock other than a cold air intake that was put on by a previous owner.

She does have a couple of quirks which I can't say I'm surprised with for a 12 year old car. First off the car has a pretty pronounced shaking when on the gas at about 45mph, goes away at 50+, then comes back but not nearly as bad around 70, again only when on the gas. I've searched around a bit and found a few people that described pretty much the exact same issue. Both of the threads I found said that replacing the cv axles were the culprit, so I'm fairly sure that's what I'm dealing with. Was wondering what I should expect for a repair bill on that if I take the car to a shop?

Another thing I noticed after I got the car home was that when starting it up at idle there is a very high pitched whining noise seemingly at random, sounds kind of like a camera flash but not quite as loud, and seems to come from the pulleys/belts but kind of hard to pinpoint. Doesn't happen with any gas. After searching around for this I wasn't as successful in finding results. Any ideas what that might be specifically? It doesn't seem like something that would be a major issue but I'm by no means an expert so..

Also feel free to recommend some visual mods. My first plans there are probably ebay LED tails, and MAYBE projectors as well, unsure if I want smoked or not though. After that, tint. After that..not sure.

Thanks for any help, I plan to be a regular here in the future!

Nice car, and welcome. Just about any mod has been done to theses cars, you can look around to see what you like.

I can offer advise about what you call the "camera flash" noise. The alternator produces a noise like that and is most noticeable at idle, if you can't pinpoint it, turn on the rear defroster while you hear it should get louder.

is that just a normal noise or is the alternator on its way out?

Alternators always make that noise, if that's what you're hearing (it's normal operation)

alright cool, thanks for the replies so I don't worry about it

also since you have an 02 (judging by your username) did they not put performance shift in 02s? I wasn't aware that any of them came without it but my car doesn't have it

I've got a GT, so it's N/A. Still don't have one though, I don't think any N/A's came with one.

Expect to pay atleast 200-250 just for the axles and about 1 hr labor per side to do the axles.

Shops will mark up the parts 30-50%, you'd pay maybe 150-180 if you bought them yourself and did them yourself.

And PS is a feature on the car, just no physical button. Its built inside the computer per say, it comes into affect when its needed based on throttle % and so on. 97-00 had a button, 01+ does not.

Just make sure to check the tensioner for that noise. I thought it was the Alt. But then the drive belt snapped due to frozen pulley on tensioner.

    Napa?

Look up prices guy, new axles from napa can be 80-90 bucks, reman axles 50-70. Don't come at me with a "WHAT, OMG THAT MUCH" when they indeed are that much. And if you went through a shop they will try and make 30-50 bucks off each axle to they up the price.

That clear coat fade is a pretty common problem on the rear bumper there. I have seen it on the tops of the spoiler too.

Looks nice with the rear inlays and debadge. I keep going back and forth on taking the badge off on the trunk on mine.

I wish my usb jack still worked. My sister did a really good job at smashing the usb to the side while it was plugged in.

I have that same whine when it's cold btw. It's hit or miss because sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't.
