Re: bobber project, take 2: '79 XS650
pipes are still out at the shop, bah.
going to finish installing the new sprockets tonight. had to turn down a spacer that i have because it's a harley wheel and the sprocket i have is too small to fit with the spacer, the chain wouldn't even attempt to engage.
ordered a new 530 gold x-ring EK chain. going to have to chop off a couple links on that to make it fit because 120 is too much (i think the chain i took off is 114 links). also ordered a chain tensioner with a sweet skateboard wheel. adds character.
maybe a couple pictures later of how it looks exactly the same still, heh.

Pipes aren't going to be like last time where they are gone for 5 years and never get done... right???

no, they are at an actual legitimate business.

Are you gonna wrap them or leave as is?
-
Re: bobber project, take 2: '79 XS650
i wrapped them last night. it was quite a messy ordeal.
i will be bringing them to work in the next couple days to spray on the coating for the wrap so they'll be finished this week. i just want to do it somewhere warm and we have a little area we use as a paint booth here.
it's been cold and i've been doing a lot of shoveling and other crap around the house lately. incoming baby problems, heh. hopefully i can try and find a few hours this week to get the new chain on as well as get everything back on how it should be (including the pipes).

let the pipes dry overnight.
grabbed them off the rack this morning and wiped them down so all of the little fibers sticking out would get rubbed off. they look great. one step closer to next seaons look.

So what's next besides putting them on and taking more pictures *wink wink*

^^ been wondering where you been hidding lol

Re: bobber project, take 2: '79 XS650
maybe i'll stuff them in the ports again just for a quick snapshot, but i won't be installing them until the chain and all is on there. without the pipes on there's more space for me to work.

Re: bobber project, take 2: '79 XS650
got the new chain on. i was getting pissed off with the clip link i bought because i just simply couldn't compress the link enough to even have a chance of getting the clip in. decided it wasn't worth the effort since next time i take the chain off i'll probably be replacing it making the rivet link fine (since i'll have to cut it off anyway).
noticed the adjuster bolts for the rear axle weren't long enough. grabbed some longer ones from work today. so tonight i'll toss those on and tighten up the rear wheel and align it.
from there i can tighten down the chain tensioner i got and toss the new pipes on it and everything will be done except painting the tank and side covers, which i haven't figured out a color scheme for yet anyway.
i'll get some pictures of the "finished" product soon.
PS - it's cold outside.

Just wait till sunday/monday for some real cold.

Re: bobber project, take 2: '79 XS650
quick picture after i tightened up the chain and tensioner. threw the pipes in the exhaust ports, so they aren't even close to where they should sit, but you get the idea.
