A month ago I purchased a 2005 Impulse Blue Metallic GTO M6. Here's a little back story, but feel free to skip the BS and move to the good stuff.

    G8 test drive
The transmission had started slipping in my Grand Prix(daily) and I decided it was best to retire it for the time being. I was on the fence to either get a G8 or a GTO. I found a white G8 GT that was at a local Chevy dealership and decided to check it out. Through the years on various boards people have hyped this car up. I was expecting it to **** unicorns or something. As I started to walk around and look inside it was more of a meh feeling. I went ahead and took it for a test drive which ended up leaving more to be desired. The power was decent, it had some decent leg room, but I couldn't get over how cheap the interior looked and felt. For the price these cars were originally sold for I was expecting a little more from the General. I left a little disappointed, but was satisfied with my decision to walk away from G8's all together. Maybe if I had found a GXP and wanted to sacrifice my left nut it would have be different.

    GTO hunting
I started looking again, but focused my search on GTO's. I was picky because there was only a couple of colors I was interested in, blue, yellow, or orange. I came across another ad from a different dealer which showed a stock photo and didn't have much information listed other than the typical specs.

As I arrived at the Hyundai dealer my daughter and I searched the used lot, but couldn't find it. A sales person walked over and asked if needed any assistance. I mentioned the ad, and he responded with we just got it in 2 days ago and it's in the back. We went inside, spoke for a couple of minutes, and then he left to go pull it around. Shortly he returned and said I've got it out front for you, but just so you know it hasn't been serviced or detailed yet. As I walked outside the impulse blue metallic paint sparkled in the sunlight, even with a heavy coat of dirt. I must admit it was instant attraction with the color and I was already excited about the test drive. As I get closer I see the blue interior and notice the 18" factory wheels. It only added to the the excitement as that combo in the GTO is my favorite.

    GTO test drive and pickup
We get in and I drive to the end of the parking lot and stop at the exit. I ask him were I needed to go for the test drive. He looks over and says, "Jon, I've only been working at this dealership for 4 hours and a with a car like this you do what you gotta do." I laugh, turn on to the service road, mash the gas, and rip through the gears as my 6 year old is giggling and saying faster daddy faster. I let off the gas at 110, slow down to 60, sink back down into the seat, and drive for the next couple of minutes, and enjoy it. I turn to the salesmen and said okay let's go back, talk some money, and wrap things up.

It stays through the next day so that it can get inspected, get the oil changed, and a full detail. I tell my wife about the car and she is anxious to see it and drive it. We head to go get it and I tell her she can drive it home if she wants. Of course she is enthusiastic and can't wait to get behind the wheel let alone see it in person for the first time. We arrive and wait for a couple of minutes while they bring the car around. As it is driven around the corner I can see my wife's smile getting bigger and bigger.

    The drive home=first race
I hand her the keys, hop in her 08 GP, and we are ready to make the 30 minute drive back home. The whole time I'm thinking, wouldn't it be some **** if she gets the first race out of the car. Low and behold a potential challenger appears in a 99-04 red mustang GT. This couldn't be a more perfect race for her. As I pass I see its a young kid(18-19 maybe) who is dogging on his car and revving it up to hear the loud exhaust. he must be thinking his car was touched by the hand of God or something. We arrive at the stop light and the mustang is in neutral and the kid is showing off his loud exhaust while exchanging a few words out the window. My wife looks over at me and I get the, this kid is about to get ****ed up look. Light goes green they both take off and the GTO instantly puts bus lengths on the stang. I catch up to the mustang after a minute or two, look over, and the kid has a look of disappointment on his face. You could tell his ego had just been shattered. Not only did he lose in his precious mustang to a stock car, but a girl did the ass whopping.

Now that the back story is out of the way here are the pics I took before I left the dealership the first time.

    Finally at home:

That's the color combo I wished I could have got on mine, but price was more of a factor for me. Wanna trade wives? I spent about 20 minutes on the phone the other day trying to tell my wife how to move the car out of the way, but sadly she just stalled it every time, then tried telling me it was in gear and the clutch was out but it still wouldn't move lmfao!! It's hard to stall that big ole engine, if you just let out on the clutch easy enough you don't even need to gas it. Ima take her to school on it soon lol

Now that's some funny **** right there. I'll pass on the wife trade. Fortunetly, her dad was into cars when she was growing up. It wasn't uncommon for her dad to have multiple muscle cars sitting in the driveway from a 69 Camaros to multiple 70-71 Hemi Cudas some of which were verts. They were always working on the cars etc. It's funny listening to her school people on Cuda's in general at car shows. Guys usually give her the look. Funny enough one of the first cars he did for her was a 1964 plum crazy purple Barracuda. But, her dream car is a 1957 Bel Air. Chevy girl at heart. I love it!

Thanks I was happy with the numbers and the 6.0 with a manual is one hell of a fun engine/trans combo to just get in and drive.

Car has been having a rough idle lately. Thought I'd go ahead and do a fuel injection cleaning:

Sure enough it solved the problem.

The way I do it is just unhook the vac line going into the brake booster and feed it that way. It's usually the easiest. Didn't really hunt for another line coming off the manifold. I do not have any extra pullies those left awhile ago.

No, this tool you use to go through a vac line to clean out the intake manifold. I got this one from work years ago as a going away gift.

I have some questions if you don't mind me asking.

I have been looking at 05-06 GTO's within a 200 mile radius from where I live for a couple months in a similar condition as yours (obviously great) with under 60K in miles and with a clean record (no accidents or water damage) and most of the dealerships ask from 20-26k. In some rare cases I see some M6 05-06 GTO's that are in the condition I described for under 18k asking price but are sold shortly after. I really don't mind which color I would get as long as the car is in great condition and is well priced.

I am curious what was the asking price, mileage, and price you got the car down to when you purchased it? Also, how is the insurance rates on the car?
20-26 is crazy asking money for these cars. I could see maybe 20, but even then that's one with sub 25K miles. There's actually a local one(06) a dealership is asking for and it has 15K miles. I picked mine up for 13.5 + TTL with 75K on the odometer, but its not in pristine condition. It has some rock chips and a few scratches here and there, which is very typical of a daily driver. However the nice thing is that its a one owner car that is unmolested. I would highly suggest you check out 2004-2006 GTO Source and look in the classifieds section. You will find a few in the 18K or less range. There are the few that have a high price on them(20+k), but they are sub 5-10K miles and are in showroom condition.

There are many automatic LS2's GTO's for under 18k but not many manuals. I wish Pontiac only offered these cars in manual lol.
Lol yea no sense in going automatic unless you are wanting to make it a drag car. When you finally get yours make sure to make a build thread so we can keep tabs on what your doing to it. I am definetly looking forward to enjoying the car for many more years to come. It will eventually be retired and stay in my collection.

LS2 IBM is probably the only combo I'd ever own on a GTO, minus BOM

Awesome pickup man, also has the better looking thinner spoked 18's.

    Love.

    Yea yea ... Sure Sure

I can feel you crying all the way down here

I want one so bad. Told the GF when she graduates and gets bank from her nursing job I want to get a GTO, G8, C5, or a Trailblazer SS. Oddball out in left field for the TBSS but they are so awesome, 2 friends with them and I want one too, LS2 with mods is straight beastly in the 1/4 and they make nice sleepers when you debadge them. So 1 of the 4 is my hope once we get monies... until then... no love.

Mods will be light. A small drop, some wheels, an intake, and a set of mufflers. Keeping this one stockish for now. Not planning on getting crazy with it. Because I'm planning on picking up a Fiero later this year.
