I'm shocked nobody else has hopped in this thread and commented on the transmission diagnosis.

Have you bee able to locate the root cause of no forward movement?

That pic of the 4th clutch hub with the stripped splines will only cause you to lose overdrive. Yes the material from the stripped splines can take out other areas of the transmission but there should have been some forward movement. Unless you have found other signs of failure in the transmission you're setting yourself up for one hell of a learning experience.

Also can you take a pic of the exact part that you're talking about? The driver's side output shaft needle bearing? There is also a needle bearing that's in the driven support area that hold the 4th apply piston.....And if you're talking passenger side there is a needle bearing that the end of the diff slides into. Just want to make sure you clarify especially when you're asking for part numbers.

Yeah this topic seems to not get much traffic. The root cause I'm venturing a guess. Mix between the broken tab on the forward band, very worn down 2-1 band down to the steel in some places, and the 3rd clutch pack frictions were just flaking away. I think between all those items it just didnt want to move forward.

hopefully it works when it gets back in the car. With my luck, that trans would still be in 100 pieces and would never go back together lol

Finally got my bearing and thrust washer in the mail, but for some reason the channel plate doesnt drop into place. The gear with the reluctor wheel seems to be sitting higher than the gear on the 4th gear hub.

So tomorrow the needle bearing gets pressed in and set into place, and I think I'm going to weld the reluctor wheel in place

Anyhow glad I double checked that drum today. Had a couple seals wrong at the bottom of the drum. Corrected the areas, got the Needle bearing pressed into the channel plate. Chains a little loose but is a little over 1/4 inch in clearance. So I will probably rebuild another tranny down the road with all the goodies.

Anyhow, I got the channel plate torqued down. Tomorrow I get the rest of it all together. Should be install time next time it's "warm" up here in NY... Which looks like the weekend. @ 53*

Sounds like you're moving right along. For the channel plate gaskets did you get the paper ones or the metal ones? If you got the metal ones I'd suggest re-checking the torque on the bolts for the channel plate. The metal ones are crushed as they are torqued down and need to go over them a few times. Just a suggestion.

Well the trans is all together. Now hopefully it works haha. No reason why it shouldn't. Re-install begins tomorrow. Wish I took more pics of assembly but quite frankly, my phone has enough issues without getting fluid on it lol. Will take some of install though for sure.

You can get to all the channel plate bolt just by taking off the side cover. ~15 mins of time to double check is a whole lot easier than the alternative.....

They are the metal crush gaskets. I did recheck all of them before putting on the side cover. Also the bearing in the differential cover was still in place.

    Big update..

So I mated the engine and tranny together...

Picked it up and tightened the TC bolts.

    Started dropping it in..

And it fit in rather easily.

I forgot to take pictures after this point because my phone was dying and didnt wanna kill it completely. But just about everything is all together. Every sensor minus the rear o2 sensor because those wires are cut. Left the headlight harness off. Got the dogbones back on, pcm plugged in, TB and intake connected. She got a new radiator connected, Filled coolant and got the steering pump bolted in. Belts on. Put in 4 quarts tranny fluid and fired it up. Ran at 4k rpm for about 4 seconds and died. wont stay running more than 2 seconds before stalling. I believe this is the fuel pump resistor mixed with a vacuum leak.

Far as issues go.. I need a new evap purge valve. MAYBE a CASE relearn but wont know till the weekend.

I have this diagram. I need to know where ACSRY is.. I apparently am missing that vacuum line. Goes from the funny looking thing on top of the SC and the outlet between the booster line and the bypass solenoid line.
