Thread: '75 honda bobber project

picked this up yesterday.



'75 honda CB750 supersport. it will be torn down and everything transplanted into a bobber hardtail frame. hope to have it running on and the streets by the time the weather gets nice in the spring.

so far what it needs:

- gas tank. the one on it is way rusty, unusable.
- carbs, brakes, cables, plugs, suspension, etc. need a once over, possible rebuilds.
- needs a front tire, this one is dry rotted pretty good.

other than that it's a running driving bike. had it running, fairly poorly, in the guys driveway for a short time. it needs some help and it should run like a top.

progress isn't existant yet. i want to get it titled in my name first before i get too far and then we can go from there. the frame i want is $800 so that is going to be the big purchase for this. i'm mainly going for a snatch and grab for this setup, but next year i'll tear it down again and rebuild for some more power and good looks.

i have been looking for a CB750 for a couple months now. i didnt want to spend more than $1000 on the bike itself and i was looking for something complete. running or not, i need all the parts to transfer over to the new frame. ad after ad, all sold very quickly. at first i thought i wanted to shoot for the DOHC CB750 ('79+), but those seemed even more difficult to track down in my price range. i settled on this one because i was able to talk the guy down to $800, it runs (****ty since the carbs need to be rebuilt), and has a clean title.

so i bought a non-running, complete bike, with a clean title, for $800. not the best deal i've ever gotten, but it isn't a bad one either. these bikes seem to have some sort of allure to them for people wanting to rebuild or a piece of the "original superbike" history. they tend to move fast.

if i did some minor work to the bike (rebuild carbs, new plugs, lubing cables, brake refresh, etc.) and put a temporary gask tank on it, i could probably get it on the road and running inside of a month or so. but since there is so much work to do anyway, i am just going to tear it down and put it together how i want it right away. i'm still unsure of a vast number of details, but i won't really know what i want to do until i run across it in the build process.

My dad just sold his 79 750ss with a parts bike and a ton of parts for $800. The guy sent my dad a few pics a week later with it running and repainted he didn't waste any time at all lol

this is so badass.

I rode my bike quite a few times last winter. I put about 100 miles on it new years eve.

i'm doing more than a carb rebuild and quick once over.

this thing needs a lot of attention to be truely rideable.

also you could probably save your tank if you wanted. Some marbles or rocks in the tank and shake them around with something that eats rust up and you can get most of it out.

I came here thinking we were talking about these.
